LLANIDLOES Town boosted their title prospects in the MMP Mid Wales League division one as they recorded a 3-1 victory over one of their chief rivals, Berriew at Victoria Avenue.

After trailing to an early goal by Steffan Rogers, the Daffs hit back to wrap up a crucial win through goals by Ed Clarke, Peter Rees and Connor Bird.

Manager Hugh Clarke was delighted with the performance, that sees his side maintain their three point lead at the top, and move 10 clear of Berriew, who still have three games in hand.

“We went a goal behind early on, and they had a couple of other chances, but after we got tighter in midfield, we were the better team,” said Clarke.

“They are a very good footballing side, but we were more physical and street-wise, and we deserved the win.

“We’ve still got seven games to go, so we have to keep our run going. But three or four sides are still in with a shout, so there is still all to play for.”

Looking to avenge a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Rhiewsiders in December, the Daffs found themselves trailing when Rogers broke through to score after the hosts lost possession.

Berriew carved some good chances in the early stages, but were pegged back as Ed Clarke sent a crisp volley from 16 yards into the bottom corner.

The Rhiewsiders had keeper Ryan Edkins stretched off through injury, and Llani went on to seal their win in the second period, with Rees smashing home from the edge of the box after a corner had been half cleared.

The three points were sealed when Connor Bird ran on to meet Adam Worton’s ball over the top and head over stand-in keeper Craig Pearce.

Second-placed Caersws stayed three points behind the leaders after winning 2-0 against Bow Street, with second half goals from top scorer Mark Edmondson and skipper Lance Jones.

Llanfair United continued their good league form to see off a stubborn Aberaeron side 2-1 on Mount Field.

Llanfair hit the woodwork on three occasions, before taking the lead early in the second half, when Karl Seliaerts slotted home after a neat one-two inside the left channel with Josh Astley.

Elwyn Edwards soon levelled matters for Aberaeron with header at the back post from a corner, but despite playing some nice football at times, the visitors succumbed to a penalty.

The ball was played up to Karl Seliaerts, who was shoved in the back inside the area, and he stepped up and clinically slotted home from the spot.

Carno were 3-2 winners at home against Builth Wells, having been three goals up at half-time through Andy Evans, Harry Vince-Holt and Sam Williams, with a bicycle kick on his return from Montgomery Town.

The Wellmen hit back with second half goals from Danny Ives and Will Cleaton to make it a nervous finish.

Kerry’s prolific Luke Mumford scored four goals, despite a missed penalty, as they beat a 10-man Tywyn/Bryncrug 4-2 at Dolforgan Park.

Tywyn lost Tom Allen-Davies through injury and had Iwan Jones was sent off after just 25 minutes, but they still managed to create chances even with 10 men, and scored through Nick Williams and Aled Jones.

Llandrindod Wells produced a great display to beat Llansantffraid 6-0, with some superb goals in the second half ultimately killing off the game.

Robert Nicholls scored a brace for the Spa side, along with further goals from Samed De Groot, Michael Collister, Ryan Sims and an own goal.
