AFTER opening up a three point gap at the top of the MMP Mid Wales League division one, Llanidloes Town embark on crunch clash at home to one of their chief rivals Berriew this Saturday (2.30pm).
The Daffs will have a score to settle after slumping 5-2 at Berriew back in early December, but will be in good spirits after overcoming Carno 3-1 last weekend.
"We did not play particularly well, but it’s the result that matters at this stage of the season," said Daffs manager Hugh Clarke.
"After going behind. we showed good character to come back and win the way we did, but we’ve now got a big game against Berriew on Saturday. We’re gong to be positive, we’re looking to win.
"We lost 5-2 there when we gave them five goals in the mud, so we will need to defend better than we did that day.
"We want to stay top for as long as we can, and it’s up to the other teams to catch us."
After a goalless first half at Victoria Avenue, Llani found themselves trailing to a close range opener from Carno’s Daniel Lewis following a free kick, but they hit back to level through Ash Owen’s strike.
George Clarke then put the Daffs in front when, following a flat free kick, he bravely nipped to beat Carno keeper Chris Brown and head the ball into the empty net.
Connor Bird then sealed victory in the dying moments when tapping in after good work down the left by Gareth Owen.
Victory saw Llani open up some daylight at the top of the table, with neighbours Caersws losing ground in second when being held to a 0-0 draw at Builth Wells.
The Bluebirds had dominated the first half, with Rhydian Davies and Craig Harris spurning their best chances, but it was still an important point, especially with six regulars missing from their regular side.
Welshpool Town are fourth in the table - nine points behind the leaders on the same number of games - after they hit back to beat Llansantffraid Village 4-1 at home.
After being a goal down at half-time through a Bailee Austin effort, a stunning second half performance produced a hat-trick from Ricky Litchfield and one from Will Thomas to secure the win for Pool.
Llanfair United are refusing to be written off, and despite trailing by 12 points, they have no fewer than five games in hand after their 4-2 win at Tywyn/Bryncrug.
A Josh Astley brace and single goals by Ryan McVeagh and Ben Jones earned the three points for Llanfair, after the home side had hit back to level the scores at 2-2 through Cullen Rodgers and an own goal.
Llandrindod Wells won 3-0 at home to Churchstoke to move up to sixth place in the table, courtesy of goals from Robert Nicholls, Ashley Jones and an own goal.
Aberaeron felt it was another two points dropped as they drew 4-4 at home at Kerry, despite two goals from Ifan Burrell taking his tally to 15 goals in 15 matches.
Elwyn Edwards and James Hemming also scored for the Seasiders, but full credit to Kerry, who scored through Ben Davies and a Max McLaughlin brace, before Matt Mumford rescued a point late on.
