LLANIDLOES Town remain top of the Spar Mid Wales League division one, despite allowing a two-goal lead to slip in a 3-2 home reverse against Radnor Valley.

With second-placed Welshpool Town also losing 4-1 at home to Carno, the Daffs were unable to capitalise as they suffered their first home reverse of the campaign.

“It was very disappointing,” said Daffs boss Hugh Clarke. “We were cruising in the first half, we were 2-0 up and we should have had four or five at half time.

“We had our chances, but we need to be more clinical and streetwise. It’s not all about football, it’s also about the mental side of the game. It was a game we should have won, but we need to put it behind us and focus on the Welsh Cup this week.

“The most frustrating thing for me was that we beat Bow Street earlier in the week, and they were a far better side.”

Llanidloes had three of their key players missing for the visit of Radnor Valley in Harri Clarke (shin), George Clarke (shoulder ligaments) and Steve Jones (groin).

Nevertheless they took the lead after just two minutes when Joe Evans fired home following a fine ball from Richie Evans - and that advantage was doubled on the half hour when Richie Evans found the back of the net after Joe Evans had driven an Ed Clarke corner kick towards goal.

After missing other chances, it all went wrong for the hosts in the second period as Radnor Valley clawed their way back, with strikes from Elliot Morris, Geraint Lloyd and Joey Price, with the winning goal coming from the penalty spot.

Carno impressed with a 4-1 win in their Friday night encounter, ending Welshpool Town’s unbeaten start to the season.

In a dominant first half display, Harry Holt swung in a corner that was met by a looping header by Scott Williams to open the scoring, and good work on the wing saw Andrew Evans find Peter Rees unmarked, and his shot from the edge of the box flew past the keeper for a 2-0 lead.

It was 3-0 moments later, when Harry Holt won back possession and found Scott Williams, whose curling shot from the edge of the box found the top corner.

Five minutes before the break, Scott Williams was fouled inside the area and Andrew Evans stepped up to fire the ball home and effectively put the game to bed.

Welshpool pulled a goal back on the hour with a well taken goal by Ricky Litchfield, but the hosts failed to mount serious pressure on Kris Williams’ goal.

Peter Rees, Adam Williams and Harry Holt all had chances to extend the lead further as the Greens saw out the game.

Newly-promoted Kerry maintained their unbeaten record in division one in a battling 3-2 win at Knighton Town, despite a strong fightback from the hosts.

Tom Jones netted a 30 yard screamer, followed by another Max McLaughlin brace to put Kerry in the driving seat, although second half goals from Danny Ives and Ieaun Crowe had reduced the arrears, before the Lambs were reduced to 10 men late into the second half when McLaughlin received a second yellow card.

Llandrindod Wells notched their first win of the campaign as goals from Shane Pritchard, Stuart Williams and Kieran Mccarley, from the penalty spot, sealed a 3-2 win over Llanfair United, who scored through Alun Hughes and Paul Griffiths.
