FOLLOWING their impressive 2-1 win against Buckley Town the previous week, Llanuwchllyn faced a much sterner test last Saturday as they travelled to take on one of North Wales football's biggest clubs, Bangor 1879.
With the sun shining at Nantporth, the home side made the brighter start, applying constant pressure on the Llanuwchllyn defence.
Rob Dascalu was called into action several times during the opening 15 minutes, but despite the goalkeeper's efforts, Bangor took the lead after 20 minutes. A cross from the right found Adam Long, who headed past Dascalu and into the net.
The hosts doubled their advantage five minutes later when Tommy Creamer headed home from an accurate delivery to the far post.
Bangor were now completely controlling the midfield battle, with Ilan Hughes, Tom Evans and Ilan ap Gareth finding it difficult to keep tabs on their opponents.
The third goal arrived five minutes before half-time and effectively ended Llanuwchllyn's hopes. Blaine Hudson rose above everyone else to power another header into the back of the net.
Several substitutions were made after the break, with Wil Owen particularly lively, while Sam Evans and Olly Crimp also made a positive impact.
However, it was undoubtedly Bangor's day. One of their star players, Declan McManus, headed home a fourth goal after 70 minutes.
A fifth header with five minutes remaining added to Llanuwchllyn's misery, as Corrig McGonigle secured all three points for Bangor.
This was a very tough benchmark for the visitors to face, but Bangor already look like a side capable of competing at Cymru Premier level, quite apart from their resources, the quality of the pitch and the facilities at Nantporth Stadium.
Nevertheless, it was an invaluable experience for the Llanuwchllyn players and one from which everyone will undoubtedly have learned.
Attention now turns to the next challenge, which will be no less demanding, as Rhyl visit Penllyn next Saturday.
