Buckley Town 1 Porthmadog 1
Novira Cymru North
PORTHMADOG came away with a well-deserved point from The Globe in a game that could have been won and lost in the final few minutes, writes Dylan Rees.
Port started the brighter with Morgan Owen unleashing a powerful shot which took a deflection for a corner after four minutes. A couple of minutes later, a Dylan Summers-Jones effort went over the bar after a wonderful pass from Owen.
Buckley grew into the game and created chances of their own, with Luke Mariette’s powerful shot tipped over the bar by Port goalkeeper Robbie Williams, followed by efforts from Ben Guest and Scott McHarrie which were saved by the busy Williams. On 33 minutes, Ben Guest’s well-struck shot was turned around the post by Williams.
But on a rare attack, Dylan Summers-Jones was fouled by a Buckley defender close to the touchline. Osian Ellis took control and delivered a fantastic free kick, finding Josh Banks at the far post to head Port into the lead on 37 minutes.
Soon after, Luke Baum broke free, and his shot went just past the Buckley post. Buckley nearly equalised on 42 minutes as an Aled Bellis header went narrowly wide of the post.
Port started the second half on the front foot as a Summers-Jones effort went past the post after some wonderful work down the right by Owen. Owen was involved again moments later, supplying Osian Ellis, but his shot was well saved by Bryn Owen.
On 57 minutes, a wonderful cross from Adam Boydell found the head of Scott McHarrie, whose powerful header flew past Williams to make it 1–1.
On 68 minutes, Morgan Owen tried an audacious effort as he spotted Buckley goalkeeper Owen off his line, but the shot drifted wide. Then it was the turn of the lively Guest - who had an outstanding match for Buckley - firing over the bar.
As the match entered the final 15 minutes, it became end-to-end. A Ryan Williams free kick went past the post, quickly followed by a shot just inches over the bar.
On 88 minutes, substitute Rhys Edwards nearly won the match for Buckley, but an outstanding save by Williams diving to his left denied a certain goal.
Port nearly won it in added time as Gruff John Williams found himself in the box, only to be denied by Owen. And there was one more chance for Port as Morgan Owen broke away down the right and delivered a cross for Rhys Alun Williams, whose header was cleared for a corner.
And that was that—an entertaining match played in good spirit, finishing 1–1, a fair result.
Next up: Denbigh Town away at Central Park on Friday, kick-off 7.45pm.
