LLANYSTUMDWY once again turned on the style when it really mattered to secure a resounding 4-0 success at Menai Bridge Tigers to secure the Gwynedd League’s runners-up position.

Having also won the North Wales Coast Intermediate Cup this season, Llanystumdwy are hoping to be promoted into the Welsh Alliance division two, along with champions Felinheli.

At Menai Bridge, two penalties by Sion Parry, after three and 38 minutes, and netted efforts by Ceirion Jones on 37 and Carwyn Edwards on 68 sealed the win to open up a four-point lead over Cemaes Bay with one game to go.

In midweek, Llanystumdwy had to settle for an entertaining 4-4 draw with Talysarn Celts, with Sion Parry’s 80th minute penalty earning a crucial point.

A Rhys Jones goal for Celts on 33 minutes was quickly cancelled out by Tomos Williams, and Iwan Richards gave the visitors the lead two minutes after the break, only for Dylan Roberts to equalise for the hosts on 53 minutes.

In a thrilling encounter, Llion Davies then took the lead for the Celts on 62 minutes, but Kyle Williams replied on 74, and a penalty from Jac Jones on 71 minutes restored the lead, before Parry held his nerve from the spot on 80.

Champions Felinheli slipped to a 2-1 defeat to mid-table Aberffraw last weekend, with Richard Roberts netting on six minutes and Matty Reynolds on 83 to seal victory, with the hosts replying through Griff John’s goal on 80.

Two days earlier, the league leaders had hit back to win 3-2 at Bontnewydd, where goals from Aled Hughes on 10 minutes and Adam Jones on 25 were cancelled out by Iwan Owen on 34, Tomos Davies on 60 and an own goal from Arwel Jones on 68 minutes.

On Thursday, Menai Bridge Tigers beat Cemaes Bay 2-0 with goals from Lance Williams on 32 minutes and Darren Lewthwaite after 47 minutes.

Last Tuesday, Bodedern Athletic beat Menai Bridge Tigers 3-2 with goals from Ashley Hughes on 4 minutes, Eric Leach on 65 and Daniel Owen on 70, with Darren Lewthwaite replying on 41, and Gut Hughes on 75 minutes.

Bontnewydd drew 2-2 with Aberffraw, with goals from Daniel Evans on 35 minutes and Aled Hughes on 78 cancelling out goals from Conor Rees on 21 and Richard Roberts on 54.

Harlech Town were beaten 3-2 at home to Nefyn Utd, despite goals from Jamie Jones on 15 minutes and Llion Owen on 65. Goals from Dafydd Jones on 10 minutes, Rhys Williams on 53 and Llion Bryn on 72 sealed the points.

Nefyn United’s last hope of silverware disappeared as they slipped to a 4-3 extra time defeat at Bontnewydd in the Safeflue Shield knockout.

Nefyn’s scorers were Dafydd Jones after 56 and 117 minutes, and Terry Jones with an own-goal on 98, whereas Bontwent one better through Daniel Evans on 64 and 115, Aled Hughes on 102 and Gareth Edwards on 107.
