LLANYSTUMDWY exacted immediate revenge for their dramatic cup knockout by rivals Nefyn United the previous weekend as they secured the Gwynedd League spoils with a thrilling 3-2 win at Dwyfor Park.
Crucial goals from the home team’s two Parry attackers, Sion on 49 minutes and Darren on 51 and 70, ensured that Aled Jones’ men to atoned for their cruel North Wales Coast Junior Cup defeat on penalties.
Nefyn, who had won the original home league clash with their local rivals by the same 3-2 margin back in August, netted their goals in the away return through Mark Dunn on 42 minutes, for a 1-0 lead at the break, and Meical Williams on 60.
Waunfawr were also 3-2 winners over the still pointless bottom-placed outfit Llanllyfni, whose latest set-back was inflicted by home goals from Meurig Parry on 11 minutes and Sion Roberts on 55 and 66 minutes.
Llanllyfni, who displayed more determination than in previous appearances, tried to keep pace and gained replies from Jason Taylor on 65 and Steve Jones on 80.
Gwalchmai were effective in a 3-1 win at Talysarn Celts, courtesy of goals from Chris Saxon on seven minutes and Mark Griffiths on 35 and 55, whereas the home side had netted first, through Gerwyn Williams in the opening minute.
• Gwynedd League clubs Bontnewydd and Holyhead Town have secured passage into the North Wales Coast Junior Cup’s quarter-finals, to be played in March.
Having had their third round tie at Anglesey League side Caergybi postponed the previous weekend, because of an unfit pitch, Bontnewydd edged through 2-1 at the second attempt, but only after a tight encounter that featured an 88th minute deciding goal.
After a score-less first half at the Millbank ground, Bontnewydd surged into the lead on 49 minutes, thanks to Morgan Roberts, but were then pegged back by Caergybi’s equaliser from Elliot Patterson on 72.
Extra-time was looming, when Bontnewydd’s regular marksman Ian Pleming pounced to become the match winner barely two minutes from the end.
Holyhead Town were far more convincing in a 5-0 show away against Llangoed, where their scoring ace yet again was Asa Thomas, achieving a hat-trick on 28, 64 and 75 minutes.
Holyhead gained other goals from Tom Hedley on 11 and Barry Lavelle on 68.
The North Wales Coast Junior Cup, revised fourth round draw is as follows: Nefyn United v Rhuddlan Town, to be played on Saturday week, 10 March; Gwalchmai v Llansannan, Holyhead Town v Rhyl Youth and Valley v Bontnewydd, all be played a week later, on 17 March.
