LLANYSTUMDWY moved up to sixth position in the Gwynedd League as they registered their third win of the season over Talysarn Celts with a 2-1 success.
Earlier triumphs over the Celts had been achieved in a 3-1 FAW Trophy tie last August, and a 3-2 triumph in the Meditel Cup first round last month. While four of Gwynedd’s six league and cup matches fell victim to waterlogged pitches, Dwyfor Park was fit for action last weekend and Aled Jones' lively team prospered again over the Celts.
Llanystumdwy’s fifth win in six outings since November was wrapped up in the first half as the hosts came from behind, following an opening goal from Talysarn’s Dylan Roberts after 25 minutes.
The take-over was achieved with a prompt reply just 60 seconds later by Carwyn Edwards and the winner from stalwart Meirion Pritchard a few minutes from half-time.
The three points banked lifted Llanystumdwy above Nefyn United and Menai Bridge Tigers to close the gap on the league’s frontrunners.
Harlech Town versus Bontnewydd was postponed, as was Bodedern Athletic against Bangor University.
Aberffraw played, and won 2-1 in their Safeflue Shield second round match, to qualify for a semi-final place, thanks to goals from Andrew Jones on 55 minutes and Gary Bolton on 70, with Chris Hughes netting a reply goal on 62 minutes.
Elsewhere, Nefyn’s home match against league leaders Felinheli in the Shield’s first round was called off, as was Waunfawr’s scheduled game against Menai Bridge Tigers.
