SION Parry netted a hat-trick to secure Llanystumdwy the coveted North Wales Coast Intermediate Cup for the first time, with a 3-0 win over Llandudno Albion.

The showdown at Bangor City’s Nantporth ground, between the Gwynedd League’s prospective title runners-up and the new champions of the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League, promised to be a close encounter. Parry’s goals, however, proved the difference as he netted on 18, 35 and 75 minutes to secure the victory.

“We’re delighted to have won this major cup, and we can now concentrate on securing the runners-up award in the Gwynedd League,” said delighted Llanystumdwy manager Aled Jones.

“We had to be at our best, Llandudno are a very decent side, and champions of their league, having reached three cup finals.

“It was fairly even for the most part, but we had the edge when it really mattered and Sion’s hat-trick really was something to remember.”

The first two goals saw Parry chase passes over the top, initially from Robert Griffiths and then from Iwan Lloyd, to execute exquisite lobbed shots into the net.

The crucial third goal was a superb solo effort, which saw Parry take possession near the left corner flag, cut inside and defy an acute angle with a clinical finish.

Earlier in the match, Llanystumdwy had been put under some heavy pressure, and keeper and team captain Caron Hughes was forced into important saves.

Cedri Lloyd, however, led by example in the heart of the back division, as did Tomos Meehan, whilst in the midfield Kyle Williams excelled and Llanystumdwy’s forward initiatives were entrusted to hat-trick hero Parry and lively 16-year-old Sion Guto.

It capped a superb run for Llanystumdwy, having previously accounted for Rhos United 5-2 at home, Menai Bridge Tigers 3-1 away, Aberffraw 2-0 away and, in the semi-final, Rhyl Town 2-1 after extra time at Bangor.
