LLANYSTUMDWY moved up to third place in the Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd League table with precious points gained from a 4-1 win over Waunfawr, which completed a home-and-away double over their visitors.

Aled Jones’ team, having enjoyed an 8-1 spree at their rivals’ ground a fortnight earlier, and by now winners six times in seven games, imposed their authority again by building a 3-0 command before the half-time interval.

The Dwyfor Park hosts scored through Sion Parry on 19 minutes, from a penalty, Darren Parry on 42 and Joe Soar on 45, with Soar providing the fourth on 78, whereas Waunfawr’s Meurig Parry replied on 69.

Nefyn United, who have a significant North Wales Coast Junior Cup semi-final against Holyhead Town, the Gwynedd League leaders, at their Millbank ground this coming Saturday, held second-from-top Bro Goronwy in a 1-1 draw in the league.

A tense encounter at Cae’r Delyn produced a Nefyn lead-taking goal from Meical Williams on 40 minutes and Bro Goronwy’s equaliser by Tom Morton on 75, from a penalty, after the hosts’ Tristan Parry had been ruled to have handled the ball in the box.

Nefyn, unbeaten in four games, went close to snatching a dramatic late winner, when a shot by Jack Williams was deflected by Bro Goronwy’s Gareth Owen just over his own bar.

Also in the Gwynedd League, Llangoed beat neighbours Beaumaris 4-2 at their adopted home ground at Bangor City’s 3G facility at Nantporth, with goals by Llion Roberts on 12 minutes, Luke Roberts on 50, David Thomas on 65 and Arwyn Morris on 80.

Beaumaris kept in contention by means of two penalty conversions in the second half, both scored by Dean Redmond, after 60 and 85 minutes.

The long overdue Meditel Cup first round tie between Menai Bridge and Llanllyfni was played at last, at the seventh attempt, with the Tigers winning 7-3 at the King George V Field, with goals by six different scorers.

Owain Roberts opened for Menai Bridge on 8 minutes, followed by Tom Parry on 10, Callum Graves on 14 and 16, Dave Baston on 35, Andy Wannop on 81 and Dafydd Healy on 88.

Llanllyfni made a game of it with replies by Simon Watkinson on 27 and 44 minutes and Dan Chambers on 75.

Another Meditel Cup tie, in the second round, between Bontnewydd and Holyhead Town was postponed, because of a waterlogged pitch.
