LLANYSTUMDWY moved up to third-from-bottom in the Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd League standings, as a reward for a 3-1 result over Mynydd Tigers, which gave them back-to-back wins.
After having propped up the table for many weeks, Aled Jones’ team began to enjoy better ways a fortnight before, when they toppled Bro Goronwy 5-3.
Taking on newcomers Mynydd at Dwyfor Park, Llanystumdwy had revenge in mind, having lost by an only goal at their rivals’ base a month earlier, and they opened by imposing a flurry of attacks.
The hosts’ incessant pressure paid off handsomely with a rush of three goals between the 25th and 35th minutes, as they built a commanding two-goal advantage.
Kyle Williams opened the scoring in tremendous style, when swivelling on the edge of the penalty box to rifle a glorious 20-yarder into the net - and that was followed by a brace from Bradley Williams.
Darren Parry also went close, while Bradley Williams could have completed his hat-trick in a convincing performance.
Mynydd, however, had the last word right at the end, when Kyle Hartlepp scored with a cracking effort into the roof of the net, beyond keeper Caron Hughes.
Elsewhere Gwalchmai mounted a second half show to win at Bontnewydd 5-1, thanks to Mark Griffiths netting on 49 and 60 minutes, Gwion Thomas on 75, Paul Rowlands on 80 and John Jones on 89.
Bottom side Bontnewydd had levelled with Ian Pleming’s goal on 55 minutes.
Llangoed were 4-0 winners at Bro Goronwy, where Carwyn Williams scored on 21 and 76 minutes, Wayne Thomas on 36 and Llion Roberts on 79.
In the Bob Owen Memorial Shield second round, league leaders Menai Bridge Tigers extended their all-conquering ways with a 3-2 result against Glantraeth, as a sequel to a 4-3 win at their opponents’ ground in the league a week earlier.
Wisdom James netted on 14 minutes and Dean Redmond on 39 and 60, with the visitors replying with goals from Sean Davies on 31 and Andy Clarke on 63.
Talysarn Celts beat Waunfawr 2-1 after going two up by half-time through David Jones on 15 minutes and Jac Jones on 40, before Aled Pritchard replied on 75.
