LLANYSTUMDWY had the distinction of staging the only Gwynedd League fixture that actually went ahead on Saturday, and they took full advantage to beat visitors Beaumaris Town 2-0.
New signing Pavel Romanwickz, whose transfer from Penrhyndeudraeth had gone through in the preceding days, marked his debut by scoring on 55 minutes, and Ceirion Jones doubled the home team’s tally seven minutes later.
Llanystumdwy’s Sion Parry also missed two penalty awards, in the first half when he fired against the bar, and early in the second spell when he sent the ball too close to the keeper.
The Dwyfor Park hosts, who had been very much second best to Beaumaris at their adopted home base at Bangor City’s 3G facility in late October, when being hammered 6-2, performed better in the return to become worthy winners.
The two other planned league fixtures were called off because of waterlogged grounds, including Menai Bridge Tigers versus Bodedern Athletic and Waunfawr versus Aberffraw.
The saga of the unplayed Safeflue Shield first round tie between holders Bontnewydd and Bethesda Athletic, which had been listed for the fifth time, saw yet another postponement.
Bethesda telephoned league officials on the Friday night to relate that they were unable to raise a team, and therefore by rule they will be eliminated from the competition, whereas on Saturday morning Bontnewydd reported their pitch would have been unfit to play anyway.
Nevertheless, Bontnewydd are now scheduled to go on to visit Bro Goronwy in the overdue second round tie this coming Saturday.
