LLANYSTUMDWY mounted a stirring revival in the second half of their Gwynedd League home game with Menai Bridge Tigers to scrub out a 1-4 deficit at the interval to secure a thrilling 4-4 draw.

Aled Jones’ team, back in action at Dwyfor Park, where they resumed league commitments after six consecutive Saturdays engaged in cups, figured in tit-for-tat goals with their opponents early on.

Menai Bridge’s Callum Davidson struck with the opener on 10 minutes but then Joe Soar provided the hosts’ equaliser five minutes later, and that 1-1 balance continued up until the approach to half-time.

That was when the Tigers roared three times in four minutes, with Dafydd Healy achieving a remarkable hat-trick on 37, 38 and 40 minutes – and the recent signing was making his debut, as a centre-half.

Llanystumdwy settled impressively after the resumption and inflicted their own triple whammy in a quarter-of-an-hour midway through the period, thanks to Richard Evans on 55 and 60 minutes and Kyle Williams with the point-saver on 70.

Bontnewydd improved their title credentials in third position, behind the league leaders Holyhead Town and second-placed Bro Goronwy, by slamming Talysarn Celts 6-1 on their own ground.

Gareth Edwards completed a hat-trick for Bontnewydd, scoring on 10, 31 and 63 minutes, whilst Aled Steele bagged a brace of goals on 44 and 67, and Phil McGrath hit the final strike on 83 minutes.

Talysarn were left with a solitary reply from Peter Bridges after 75 minutes.

Waunfawr edged a 5-4 win over Gwalchmai, after seven goals were scored between them in an action-packed first half. Ellis Povey was quick off the mark for Waun, scoring in the first minute, with Craig Evans levelling 60 seconds later.

The other Waunfawr scorers were Ioan Gwynedd on 11 minutes, Meurig Parry on 12 and 30 and Sion Jones on 55, whereas Gwalchmai scored their other netted efforts through Mark Griffiths on four minutes and Chris Saxon on 20 and 81.

Beaumaris Town won another high-scoring clash 5-3 against Llanllyfni, who remain pointless at the foot of the table.

Llanllyfni had their goals from Jason Taylor after 11 and 77 minutes and Callum Evison on 18, but were outgunned by Beaumaris through Chester Lloyd on five, Darren Ishmael on 70, Robbie Jones on 75 and 83 and Shaun Lock’s penalty on 89.

Bro Goronwy booked progress into the Bob Owen Memorial Shield’s second round by beating Llangoed 5-3, with extra-time goals from Connor Jones on 94 minutes and Callum Thomas on 106.

The teams had been level earlier at 2-2 at half-time and 3-3 at full-time, with Bro Goronwy scoring through Andy Williams on 21 minutes, Taylor Jones on 26 and Carwyn Williams on 52, as against Llangoed’s Ben Wright on 28, Llion Roberts on 34 and Matty Owen on 90 minutes.
