MACHYNLLETH slipped to their fifth defeat in the Spar Mid Wales League division one this season as they were beaten 4-0 at Hay St Mary’s, who produced a dominant performance from start to finish to secure the three points.
The Saints started at a very high tempo, with the busy visiting goalkeeper having to make numerous saves in the first half to keep his side in the game.
Rob Snedden hit the crossbar, Owen Lloyd had an effort cleared off the line and Brendan Hackett and Steve Morgan also went close to opening the scoring.
Three minutes into the second half, the Saints finally broke the deadlock when the outstanding Snedden crossed from the right to Hackett, who fired across the keeper into the far corner of the net.
The hosts continued to press forward and push Mach back deeper into their half, and Morgan deservedly made it 2-0 with a header at the back post from a Tom James cross in the 55th minute.
The pacey Drew Paige who had been marked well by Matt James and Chris Preece had a chance to pull a goal back but his volley went wide of the target.
Mach’s hopes ended when, after good build up play, Ryan Losito netted his first goal for the Saints, the tricky winger scoring from 16 yards to make it 3-0.
Then, with 10 minutes to go, sub Kyle Harding crossed into the penalty box, and when the ball was cleared it fell at the feet of Brendan Hackett, who bent a 25 yard strike into the bottom corner.
Bow Street meanwhile moved up to fifth position in division one table, with their fifth league win of the campaign, courtesy of a 2-1 away win at Montgomery Town.
Tom Williams scored a penalty and Dylan James got the winner from Llion Jenkins’ assist to secure the points, whilst Tom Evans netted for the hosts.
Berriew closed the gap at the top to four points as goals from Richard Davies, Jamie Dockerty and Karl Seliaerts sealed a 3-0 win over Radnor Valley.
Mark Jones, Sam Williams and Adam Farmer scored as Knighton Town moved up to sixth in the table with a 3-2 home win over Tywyn/Bryncrug, who replied twice through Aled Jones.
