BORTH United failed to build on a very promising start as they crashed out of the ER Jenkins Division Two Cup with a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Machynlleth.
The Crows had taken the lead on 15 minutes when new signing Jonathan Evans, the former Penrhyncoch forward, scored from the penalty spot, and although both teams created good chances as the half progressed, it was 1-0 at the interval.
Without question Machynlleth held the upper hand in the second half, and they deservedly equalised when Ben Davies slotted home from the penalty spot.
Further goals from Andrew Page, Joe Bell and Paul Jones deservedly gave the home side passage to the next round.
Hay St Mary’s bowed out on penalties as Abermule won 4-2 in the shoot-out, after it had finished 3-3 after extra time.
Abermule took a third minute lead through Jack Weaver, which was cancelled out when Callum Maddy headed in from a Brendan Hackett corner - but youngster Weaver regained the lead for the visitors to go in 2-1 up at the interval.
The second half saw Hay get on top and on the hour Jack Biggs headed in another Brendan Hackett corner to bring them level at 2-2, and the tie went to extra time.
Hay went ahead for the first time in the first period of extra-time, a great assist by Hackett resulted in Biggs heading in their third goal, but Mule substitute Nick Mumby restored parity to force penalties.
Mule keeper Danny Foulkes saved two spot kicks, and David Laird, Dave Anthony, Adam Williams and Dan Green all converted as Mule won 4-2 on spot kicks.
Dyffryn Banw also held their nerve to beat Dolgellau 6-5 on penalties, after their tie ended all square at 2-2 after extra time.
David Edwards had scored twice for Dolgellau, and Alun Williams and Richard Williams netted goals for Banw, to take the game to a spot-kick shoot-out.
Newbridge progressed into the next round as second half goals from birthday boy Ed Hammond and Ollie Woods sealed a 2-1 win over Mongtomery Town.
Jamie Evans scored twice and Jack Bright once as Rhayader came back from a goal down to beat Presteigne 3-1, after Tom Crichton had opened the scoring.
In MMP Mid Wales Division Two action, Tom Ellis scored the only goal as Waterloo Rovers won 1-0 at Four Crosses.
