CILGERRAN Rovers caused a shock when they knocked Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League high-fliers Bow Street Reserves out of the Emrys Morgan Cup with a 1-0 win at Park Avenue.

The visitors, who have struggled this season in the Costcutter Ceredigion League, rode their luck for long periods and they were indebted to young keeper Jon Ridleys for some excellent saves.

Fifteen minutes from the end, however, Oli Evans pounced on a goalkeeping error to fire the winner from close range.

Borth United bowed out of the Cwpan Coffa Dai ‘Dynamo’ Davies with a 1-0 extra time defeat to Cardigan.

The hosts could have had this game sewn up in normal time as chances fell to Ben Davies, John Lumb, Tom Gardner and Llion Williams, but Mark Ratcliffe finally headed the winner to set up a tricky assignment away at Bont in round two.

Llanboidy enjoyed a comfortable passage into round three when they accounted for visitors Machynlleth Reserves by 4-1 at Cae Dandre.

For the west Carmarthenshire promotion contenders, who led 3-0 after the opening 45 minutes, Ross McDonald bagged a brace with Rhys Evans and Jack Griffiths also on target.

Tywyn/Bryncrug Reserves proved too strong for their derby rivals as they registered an emphatic 8-1 win over Aberdyfi in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League division two.

Ben Holt led the way with a hat-trick as Tywyn made it three wins from three in the league this season, whilst Aberdyfi have lost all five division two matches.

Tim Holt, Mike Rees, with a brace, Ethan Rodgers and an Aberdyfi own goal completed the rout, whilst Darren Evans got a consolation.
