CARDIGAN Town will take on Tregaron Turfs in the quarter-finals of the Cwpan Coffa Dai ‘Dynamo ‘Davies on 8 February after they worked hard to beat a determined Bont 3-1 in the second round.

Bont, who had received a hammering at the hands of local rivals Tregaron the weekend before, made a real game of it, and had several decent opportunities.

The Costcutter Ceredigion League side were two goals up at the interval, however, through Liam Doherty and Ben Davies, and Dylan Davies then made it 3-0 midway through the second period.

Sion Jones pulled one back for Bont, but the Magpies held on for the win they deserved to reach the last eight of the competition, which will also see Crannog play Aberporth, Lampeter host Newcastle Emyn or Maesglas, and St Dogmaels entertain Ffostrasol.

Newcastle Emlyn closed in on leaders St Dogmaels at the top of the Costcutter Ceredigion division one as they trounced Dewi Stars 14-0 at Parc Emlyn, with Steve Thomas leading the way seven goals.

The visitors, who fielded a very young and inexperienced side, worked hard throughout, but were no match for a Reds side that are enjoying a superb run.

Jake Kelly and Dorian Davies scored hat-tricks, and Cory Davies also netted for the Reds, who are seven points adrift of St Dogmales with a game in hand.

Robbie Evans scored twice as Crannog were held to a 2-2 draw by Felinfach, for whom Rhys Jon James also scored twice, whilst matches scheduled at Ffostrasol, Llandysul and Lampeter were all off.

The race for the division two title is beginning to hot up after leaders New Quay were held to a 2-2 draw by Crannog Reserves, with Ollie Edwards netting twice for the Seasiders, which was matched by a Dan Robinson brace for the visitors.

Second-placed Crymych closed in as they notched a solid 5-0 win over Ffostrasol Reserves, to move within six points of the leaders, with two games in hand.

On target once again for the Preseli men was Llifon Howells, who bagged a brace, along with singles from Sion Vaughan, Gethin Evans and Emyr Williams.

St Dogmaels Reserves notched an excellent 5-2 win over Aberaeron Reserves, with Jack Thomas netting twice, along with goals from Elliot Wigley, Luke Jones and Osian Thomas. Lamin Manjang and Sean Thomas replied for the visitors.

There were goals galore at Cae Dandre as Llanboidy and Llandysul shared the spoils in a 6-6 thriller, with no less than 12 different players on the scoresheet.

Iolo Clement, Ben Harvey, Gethin Scourfield, Owain Gibin, Ifan Jones and Hefin Harries netted for the hosts, whilst Matthew Newbold, Scott Mayes, Huw Evans, Meurig Jones, Justin Elliott and Rhys Thomas scored for the Swallows.

There was a 2-1 win for Cardigan Reserves against Felinfach Reserves, courtesy of goals either side of the interval from Dion James and Jack Wylde, with Kris Griffiths replying with a deflected shot.

In the dying minutes the hosts were awarded a controversial penalty, but experienced keeper Joe Roscoe saved well.
