ABERYSTWYTH Town has announced the launch of an ambitious new scholarship agreement with Aberystwyth University, which will see the Club support two players through University courses.Both the Football Club and the University have agreed to contribute financially to the Scheme, beginning this Autumn with local first team player Matthew Jones.Aberystwyth Town chairman Donald Kane, himself an alumni of the University, has worked hard to bring the exciting new agreement to fruition.

“For many years Tony Bates, myself and the club directors have hoped to get this off the ground, and on this occasion the University contacted the Club,” he said.

“There is a desire from both parties to form a closer relationship, with the chance to improve standards of football, fitness and coaching through education. We are proud to announce Matthew Jones as the recipient of the first such scholarship.

“We would also like to thank Robin Halley, Dylan Eurig Jones and his team from the University, Kylie Evans, Hayleigh Goddard, Darren Hathaway and Gavin Allen as well as Tom Bates who facilitated this project.”

The Aberystwyth University/ Aberystwyth Town Football Scholarships are worth £4,000 a year, plus benefits.

Applications are invited from male candidates from the UK who are applying to study full-time for a degree in any subject, undergraduate or postgraduate.

Successful candidates will play for Aberystwyth Town Football Club in the Welsh Premier and also the Aberystwyth University BUCS team when appropriate.

Applicants must have achieved at least the standard of playing in the Welsh Premier League or equivalent, such as the Vanarama National League in England.
