A HAT-TRICK in just eight minutes by Meilir Williams was the centrepiece of Penrhyndeudraeth’s 3-2 win over Welsh Alliance visitors Llandyrnog United.
The Maes-y-Parc ace struck after 15, 18 and 23 minutes to steer his team towards their third success in the last four outings.
Next-to-bottom side Llandyrnog replied twice, but the win was never in doubt.
Williams’ first goal was a powerful 15-yard drive from an angle on the right side of the penalty box, and three minutes later he netted from Carwyn Price’s assist.
The hot shot completed his treble with another clinical finish from close range to put Penrhyn firmly in the driving seat.
Llandyrnog, to their credit, refused to concede and a penalty award by referee Gwilym Evans, for a debatable hand ball by Penrhyn defender Richard Jones, offered the opportunity for Dan Jones to reduce the arrears right on 45 minutes.
Penrhyn’s new keeper Tyler French, a 19 year old whose previous club was Barmouth and Dyffryn United, was obliged to fish the ball out of the net a second time two minutes into the second period.
The visitors mounted an incisive attack along the right and the cross into the middle was met by youngster Dafydd Evans, who tucked away from a few yards.
Penrhyn closed ranks after that and their defence look impregnable, with debutant French handling competently.
Shaun Bradley, on the left of midfield, also impressed, as did Iwan Thomas in the centre, and an encouraging return was enjoyed by long time absentee Matthew Hughes, as a second half substitute.
