PENPARCAU saw their fine unbeaten run end as they bowed out of the MMP Mid Wales League Cup with a 3-0 win at division one leaders Llanidloes, having had to play over 70 minutes with 10 men.
A neat through ball by Connor Bird set up Dafydd Carruthers to open the scoring after seven minutes, and worse followed for the visitors when Neil Evans was shown a red card for a late challenge.
A spirited 10-man Penparcau battled back well, and they missed a golden chance to equalise before the half-time break, when home goalkeeper Kris Williams saved a penalty from Mattie Davies.
The Daffs doubled their lead after the break when a good move up the left saw the ball played to Ashley Owen, who bent a fine strike around the visiting keeper.
The Daffs then sealed their win against the tiring division two frontrunners when Gareth Owen, on his return from injury, launched a long throw into the box, and Connor Bird volleyed in to make it 3-0.
Machynlleth meanwhile booked their place in the draw for the second round with a closely-fought 1-0 success under the floodlights against visitors Carno.
Dillon Browne netted the winner just before the interval, and there was little between the sides as the committed home side held firm to secure their progress.
After a slow start, Welshpool Town eventually came out on top with a 4-2 home win against Dolgellau, with goals from Jack Harris, Ricky Litchfield, Ian Probert and Will Thomas sealing victory.
Charlie Owen and Jamie Jones had put the visitors two-goals ahead, but they were left to rue their failure to defend set-pieces, as well as a penalty, whilst Gareth Lloyd picked up a second booking and was sent off with five minutes left to play.
Craig Harris hit the winner as Caersws marched on with a hard fought 1-0 win at Rhayader Town, whilst goals from Christian Jones and an own goal secured a 2-0 win for Builth Wells away at Knighton.
Radnor Valley meanwhile booked their place as 3-0 winners at Presteigne, with their winning goals scored by Callum Matthews, Lewis Morris and Joey Price.
Niall Thomas fired a hat-trick on Saturday as Berriew enjoyed safe passage into the second round with a 4-0 win at Abermule, with Steffan Rogers also scoring.
Kerry fired six second half goals to secure an emphatic 7-0 win at Churchstoke, with James Price opening the scoring in the first half, before a Max Mclaughlin brace and four goals from Luke Mumford, including a free kick and penalty.
Montgomery came through for a 4-1 extra-time win at Forden United, with Tom Evans and Scott Williams both scoring twice, after Charlie Edwards had put the hosts ahead until late in the second half.
Chris Proctor and Tom Ellis both scored twice as Waterloo Rovers booked their progress with a 5-1 win over Llansantffraid, with Nathan James also scoring.
Four Crosses booked their place as Gareth Jones and an own goal sealed a 2-1 win over Dyffryn Banw, whilst goals from Matty Tong and Ash Jones earned Llandrindod a 2-0 win at Newbridge.Welsh Cup Qualifying RoundABERAERON showed great character as they fought back from two goals down at the interval to claim a 4-2 extra-time win over Ceredigion rivals Borth United in the JD Welsh Cup.
Second half goals by Ryan Jenkins and Ianto Ap Dafydd took the tie to the additional half an hour, before two goals from ex-Borth skipper Sam Middleton set up a tie at Aberbargoed Buds in the first round proper.
As Borth’s pitch was deemed unplayable on Friday, this round one qualifier was switched to Aberaeron’s school field, and both sides began the tie very positively.
Borth, who play in division two, had opened the scoring on 25 minutes when Olly Herschell’s cross into the box gave Ryan Davies the chance to score with a low strike beyond keeper Jamie Evans.
The Crows then increased their lead five minutes later when Clive Morgan’s free kick deep into the Aeron defence allowed Bryn McGilligan Oliver to score with a superb half volley into the bottom corner of the net.
Aberaeron were creating some good chances as half time neared, but Borth were worthy of their two goal interval lead, and the hosts needed to raise their game.
Borth weathered the home onslaught as the second half progressed, until finally Ryan Jenkins reduced the arrears with a downward header beyond Ben Willis.
Then, within a few minutes, Ianto ap Dafydd equalised with a left-footed shot into the bottom corner of the net to send the tie to extra time.
A nervy and scoreless first 15 minutes gave the impression that the next goal would win the tie - and finally two minutes into the second period former Borth captain Sam Middleton scored with a low shot to put Aberaeron in control.
Middleton then sealed their progress late on with a clinical finish, and Aberaeron will now go on to face Aberbargoed Buds in the first round proper on 19 October.
