DOLGELLAU caused high-flying Spar Mid Wales League division one side Llanrhaeadr a real scare before they finally bowed out of the FAW Trophy with a 4-3 defeat on their travels.
Goals by Tom Evans, with a brace, Iwan Matthews and an 85th minute winner from Matthew Evans eventually saw the hosts through to the third round, but they were made to battle all the way.
Last season’s Cambrian Tyres League champions had opened the scoring after just five minutes when Dave Edwards squared for George Townshend Jackson to open the scoring from close in.
Llanrhaeadr, however, made a very swift response as Tom Evans twice ran through to beat the advancing keeper Darren Andrews, and then a 20 yard shot by Iwan Matthews made it 3-1.
Dolgellau changed formation and they were back on level terms before half-time as Dominic Thomas was twice fouled on the left side of the area, and David Edwards twice stepped up to fire home from free-kicks.
Within minutes of the second half Dominic Thomas rounded the home keeper, but he found himself forced out by centre back, and match remained finely poised until the very end.
The hosts missed two great chances to restore the lead in the second half, but as extra time loomed a free kick was floated into box and Matthew Evans scrambled home their winner.
Llanidloes Town hit back to secure their progress into the third round of the FAW Trophy with a 2-1 win over Llansantffraid at rain-drenched Treflan.
Llani started well, and should have been ahead after just two minutes when Joe Pritchard crashed a penalty over the bar.
Gareth Owen did find the net with a header, but his effort was disallowed for impeding the keeper, before the visitors found themselves a goal behind on 33 minutes when Nathan Prodger scored.
The Daffs, however, showed plenty of resolve to get themselves back on level terms on half time when Josh Matthews headed home from a Josh Evans cross.
After the break, the Villagers had a couple of one-on-ones, but their hopes faded once they went down to 10 men for dissent, and the Daffs capitalised in the latter stages as substitute Ryan Biggs put in an inviting cross for Rhys D Evans to score.
Carno made the most of a bright start as they scored three first half goals en route to beating Bow Street 3-0 at Cae Piod.
Peter Rees and Richie Evans went close as Carno started on the front foot, but after 10 minutes Evans slotted home the opener, after being released by Rees.
Ger Jones then played in Ashley Owen, who swept his shot into the top corner from the edge of the area to double the lead, and some intricate play by Ben Jones and Andrew Evans allowed Ashley Owen to send Rees through to put them 3-0 up.
Street increased their pressure in the second half, and with 10 minutes left Carno’s Richie Evans was shown a straight red card, but the Greens remained solid.
Nick Williams scored a hat-trick as Tywyn/Bryncrug edged past Montgomery Town 3-2 in extra-time, despite replies feom Francis Barr and Connor Stacey.
Elsewhere Berriew bowed out of the competition as they were beaten 3-0 away at Llanuwchllyn, who secured their progress with strikes from Joe Evans, Gwydion Ifan and Ifan Jones.
Two goals from Dewi Thomas and a Callum Page goal earned Machynlleth a 3-1 win over Llandrindod Wells, who replied through Robbie Nicholls.
Churchstoke meanwhile beat Knighton Town 2-0, courtesy of goals from Joe Haycock and Max Mclaughlin.
