ABERYSTWYTH University had mixed fortunes in the MMP Mid Wales League division two, as they followed up their 4-2 midweek win at Presteigne with a 6-3 home reverse against visitors Dolgellau.
The students had notched their second league win of the season at Llanandras Park on Tuesday night, as they hit back from being 2-1 down to take the points.
The two sides had been all square at the half-time interval, with Prestiegne’s Duane Anning cancelling out Jonathan Ackroyd’s opening goal for University.
Tom Crichton then put Presteigne ahead in the second half, but that was as good as got for the home side as the students levelled with a great strike by Luc Thomas.
The University pushed on and goals from Jason Cotterrall and Pablo De Torres sealed the three points for the visitors.
After going two goals up against Dolgellau on Saturday, the students crashed to a 6-3 home defeat as a hat-trick from David Edwards put the visitors on the front foot.
Owain Williams netted twice, and Charlie Owen also got on the scoresheet to seal Dolgellau’s third league win of the season, whilst Jonathan Ackroyd scored a well-taken hat-trick for the University side.In-form Machynlleth moved above Penparcau into second place in the table as they made it six wins in a row at the weekend, when they eased to an emphatic 7-1 win at still-winless Knighton Town.Division Two Player of the Month Jac Petrie and Callum Page both fired hat-tricks, along with a Dillon Browne goal, to move them within two points of frontrunners Newbridge, with a game in hand.Machynlleth had notched their fifth successive win with a 2-1 triumph over local rivals Borth United in an entertaining encounter on Tuesday night.Harry Vince Holt opened the scoring after just 12 minutes with a superb left-footed shot beyond keeper Ben Willis after 12 minutes, and Mach continued to hold the upper hand as the first half progressed. It was against the run of play that Borth equalised on the half hour as Ryan Davies’ low shot beat Thomas Jenkins and found its way into the bottom corner of the net.Machynlleth, however, regained the lead 10 minutes before the interval as Charlie Jellett scored with a rasping shot, and Richie Evans, who has rejoined the club from Carno, nearly extended their lead as his free kick rebounded to safety off the post on the stroke of half-time.Borth upped their game as the second half got underway, but overall the Mach defence restricted the visitors to only a few half chances and as the match progressed they held firm for a deserved win. It became back-to-back defeats for Borth as they let slip a two-goal half-time lead, before going down 3-2 to Dyffryn Banw on a heavy pitch at Uppingham Fields.Mike Straw had opened the scoring for Borth with a left-footed strike into the top corner, and they doubled their lead five minutes before the interval when Joe Bell, recently signed from Carno, scored on his debut fired home into the bottom corner.Tom Foulkes, however, halved the deficit after the break when he converted from the penalty spot, and then Owain Jones rounded Ben Willis for the equaliser.Chances came and went for both teams as the match went into its final quarter, but with only five minutes to go Banw counter-attacked down the right and the ball was crossed in to an unmarked Ifan Davies to head the winner at the far post. Abermule picked up a point on the road as goals from Charlie Kinsey and David Anthony earned them a 2-2 draw at Churchstoke, who had taken the lead through Greg Pryce and Natty Marston.
