BORTH United were unable to maintain winning ways after an excellent win at Kerry the previous weekend, as they slipped to a 3-0 defeat to Llandrindod Wells in the Spar Mid Wales Division One.

First half goals from Kieran McCarley and Kejan Foryszewski put the Wellmen on track for their third league win, before Michael Watkins added a third just before the end.

With the morning rain taking its toll on the Uppingham Fields pitch, the match was hastily switched to Park Avenue, and even though the rain fell heavily throughout, both teams did their best to adapt.

Generally neither goalkeeper was unduly troubled as the ball zipped off the greasy 3G surface, but the visitors took the lead after 40 minutes when Kieran McCarley sprang the offside trap and slid the ball passed keeper Jamie Evans.

The Wellmen doubled their lead with five minutes of the half remaining, with Kejan Foryszewski scoring with a slight deflection passed Evans, to leave Borth chasing a 2-0 deficit after the interval.

To their credit, the Crows attacked in numbers as the second half progressed, and the introduction of Ryan Davies and Daniel Hopton to bolster the forward line did give them renewed hope of a reply.

The visitors’ defence, however, coped well to limit Borth to half chances and in the final minutes they made it 0-3 when Michael Watkins scored with a cool finish at the near post to secure the points.

Aberaeron bounced back from two tough defeats to claim a stunning 6-2 win at Carno, which has never been a happy hunting ground for them in the past.

The visitors had twice taken the lead in the first half through Matty Davies and Chris Aldritt, before unanswered second half goals by Davies, Chris Wilkins, Dan James and Mike Gornall sealed the win.

A bright start saw Aberaeron play some excellent football, and from a slick move Matty Davies found himself in space to expertly place his shot high into the net.

Aberaeron were punished for losing possession when Harry Holt netted a well-taken equaliser, but the visitors restored their lead when a deft through ball saw Chris Aldritt score with aplomb.

As the half was drawing to a close, however, Aberaeron dropped their intensity and were soundly punished when Peter Rees fired home for a second equaliser.

Aberaeron took charge in the second half, with Matty Davies scoring again, before Chris Wilkins returned a poor goal kick with a 40 yard strike into an empty net for a contender for goal of the season.

Dan James, who had an imperious afternoon for the visitors, scored from a scramble, after the keeper had saved well initially, only to spill the ball for a soft goal.

Mikey Gornall then capped off a fine display by also getting on the score sheet.

At the other end, Aberaeron defended superbly and teenage keeper Ollie Fairbrother had an excellent game in difficult conditions, whilst the understated James Hemings was exceptional with his tackling, distribution and overall fine play.

Llanidloes Town maintained their hold on top spot in division one with a convincing 3-1 win over one of their closet rivals Llanfair United at Victoria Avenue.

Llanidloes took the lead after 13 minutes when, following a throw from Ashley Owen, a cross from Richie Evans skidded into the penalty box, before being turned into his own goal by a Llanfair defender.

Rhys Evans and Ed Clarke were denied by a double save, but five minutes before half time Ben Jones levelled matters.

The visitors were second best in the second half, however, as the Daffs wrapped up the spoils with a dominant showing.

Harry Clarke, who took a knock to the head moments earlier, bravely headed the home side back in front from a Steve Jones corner - and victory was sealed in the 71st minute when Richie Evans cut in from the right before curling a terrific left footed 20 yard strike into the far top corner.

A Mark Gornall penalty had seen Bow Street 1-0 up at half-time at Churchstoke, but the hosts hit back to share the spoils with a breakaway goal by Joe Haycock.

Two goals from Will Thomas capped an impressive 6-1 win for second-placed Welshpool Town away at Kerry, with Dan Bowen, Ian Probert, Ricky Litchfield and Adam Davies also scoring, whilst Mark Hughes had netted for the home side.

Llanrhaeadr eased to a 5-0 win at home against Tywyn/Bryncrug, with Marc Griffiths and Dan Graham both scoring twice, along with a goal from Kieran Evans.

Callum Matthews meanwhile scored a hat-trick as Radnor Valley hammered Machynlleth 8-2, along with goals by Geraint Lloyd, Dewi Allen, Steve Morgan, Matt Croose and Liam Jones. The visitors netted through Benj Davies and Kam Sandy.
