LLANIDLOES manager Hugh Clarke felt it was a missed opportunity as Llanidloes bowed out of the FAW Trophy with a 1-0 third round defeat away at Swansea club Ynystawe Athletic.

The Daffs were looking to bounce back from their JD Welsh Cup exit at the hands of Pontypridd the week before by progressing into the last 32.

However, despite having some good scoring opportunities, an early goal from Jordan Prosser proved enough to end the Daffs’ hopes in south Wales.

“We were travelling into the unknown, but we were the better team by far and missed some gilt edged chances,” said Clarke. “Had we taken them, it would have been a lot different, but we know we have to kill teams off.

“We needed to put a bit more thought into our game, and to be more aggressive when the ball came into the box.

“We conceded a poor goal early on which gave them belief, they upped their game, and after that it was an uphill struggle. It’s disappointing to go out as you want to go as far as you can in these competitions, and this was a game we felt we could have won.

Ynystawe were soon ahead in simple fashion as a cross came in, the ball was headed across goal and Prosser converted their opener from six yards.

The Daffs had their chances, though, with Connor Bird failing to capitalise on one good opening in the first half when being denied by the home keeper after breaking through on goal.

Josh Hartrick struck the crossbar with the goal at his mercy after rounding the keeper in the second half, but there was to be no way back from the Daffs.

Caersws bowed out of the competition with a 2-1 defeat to Llanfair United, despite Aled Jones opening the scoring for the Bluebirdss early on with a superb 25 yarder into the top corner.

Karl Seliaerts equalised on 42 minutes, as he arrived in the box to finish a Tom Gregory cross from the left, and Josh Astley flick on from four yards.

In the 83rd minute, Seliaerts was on target with thge winning goals, finish brilliantly from a Toby Evans cross.

Carno bowed out of the competition on as goals from Joe Haycock and Ismail Ozdemir earned Berriew a 2-0 win, whilst goals from Harry Davies, Josh Thomas, Paul Bache, Aaron Thorpe and Ollie Jones secured Four Crosses a 5-0 win over Machynlleth.

Tom Wyn scored twice as Bow Street booked a place in the last 32 with a 2-1 win at Churchstoke, with new signing Reece Benson scoring for the hosts.
