ABERYSTWYTH Town Ladies had mixed success in the month of October as they followed up a thrilling penalty shoot-out win against Cascade YC in the FAW Women’s Cup, with a defeat to Cardiff Met in the Women’s Welsh Premier League Cup at Park Avenue.

Ffion Ashman made two penalty saves in a nail-biting shoot-out as the Seasiders edged through against Cascade, to set up a second round trip to take on Cardiff City Women on 17 November.

Tania Wylde had netted a crucial 60th minute equaliser from distance against the Welsh League leaders, to cancel out Abbie Davies’ first half stoppage time strike - but despite Bethan Roberts hitting the post and debutant Carly Pegg firing against the crossbar, the tie went to extra-time and then penalties.

Wylde, Caroline Cooper and Gabi Hughes all converted from the spot, and goalkeeper Ashman crucially made two saves to send Andy Evans’ Aber team through to the second round.

Aberystwyth followed that up with a 6-0 defeat against reigning champions Cardiff Met in the replayed Women’s Welsh Premier League Cup match at Park Avenue.

The original tie was abandoned after an injury to Met’s Grace Corne, with Aberystwyth having lost 3-0 to Port Talbot Town in their opening group match.

Met emerged as convincing winners this time as goals by Lucy Finch, Sophie Hancocks, Robyn Pinder, Maddie Schupbach, Micaela Milavec and Erin Murrey saw them top the group with a big win.

Meanwhile in the Women’s Welsh Premier League, Aber had followed up their 3-0 defeat at Swansea City with a 6-0 home reverse against Cardiff City at Park Avenue.

They picked up their first point of the season in a 1-1 draw at Llandudno on Sunday, however, with Emily Thomas opening the scoring for the Seasiders, before Fflur Williams netted a second half equaliser.

• Tregaron Turfs are setting the pace at the top of the Ceredigion Ladies League, after they made it four wins from four with a 2-0 win over rivals Felinfach, with goals by Nia Jones and Kala Walker.

The Turfs had also notched an 8-1 home win over Aberystwyth University, with Kala Walker scoring a hat-trick, with doubles from Tia Woolley and Jess April, and a single from Sue Walker.

A goal from Debbie Hamer earned the Aberystwyth Town Development team a 1-1 draw with Felinfach after back-to-back 4-0 and 5-0 wins over Lampeter.
