Llanidloes Town got their title quest back on track in the MMP Mid Wales League division one with a timely 2-1 win over Builth Wells at Lant Field.
After a goalless first half, Llani showed their title credentials against the wind in the second period to emerge victorious.
Connor Bird broke the deadlock when his cross found the net, and Llion Jenkins added a second goal, before Builth pulled one back in injury time through Richie Powell, following a defensive slip.
Manager Hugh Clarke was delighted with the response following his side’s disappointing 3-0 loss at Llansantffraid.
“We needed to bounce back,” Clarke said. “Builth are a decent side, but we looked tight as a unit and were as comfortable as we have been for some time.
“We are getting players back in the team now, and with just three league games left, it was a game we needed to win.”
Playing against the wind in the first half, Bird went close to an early breakthrough for the visitors when lobbing just wide.
But the striker did find the net against the elements in the second half, somewhat fortuitously when his cross from the right found the far corner of the net.
Llion Jenkins then capped an impressive return to the midfield with a well taken header from an Ed Clarke corner kick to double the visitors’ advantage.
The Daffs looked set for a clean sheet, but were finally breached in the closing moments when Powell pounced on a slip from keeper Kris Williams to score.
Title rivals Caersws hit back from being 3-1 down at home to Kerry on Friday evening, to salvage a 3-3 draw, although the Bluebirds are now seven points adrift of the leaders, but with a game in hand.
Luke Mumford had put the visitors into an early lead, but Phil Jones equalised for the Bluebirds from the penalty spot, after Paul Watson had been brought down.
Goals either side of the interval from Max McLaughlin and Ben Hendleman put Kerry got two goals clear, but captain Lance Jones replied, before Elliot Jones equalised from the spot after Jo Jo Harries was brought down with 15 minutes to go.
An impressive four goals by Josh Astley meanwhile sealed the points for Llanfair United as they triumphed 4-2 at a windy Radnor Valley on Saturday, with Joey Price twice hitting back for the Goats.
The win lifted Llanfair above Caersws into second position, six points behind Llanidloes, but with four games in hand.
Drew Cook fired a hat-trick as Berriew won 6-1 at Tywyn/Bryncrug, with Joe Haycock also scoring twice, along with a Marc Jones penalty, whilst Aled Jones netted the consolation for the home side.
Berriew are 10 points behind the leaders, but also have four games in hand.
Aberaeron meanwhile celebrated a solid 3-0 home win over Llansantffraid Village, with Lee Perkins, James Hemming and Ifan Burrell getting on the scoresheet as they moved into a top six position.
Bow Street edged a crucial 1-0 win over Carno, with Tomos Williams scoring the only goal of the game from the penalty spot to ease their relegation concerns.
Honours ended even in the other Friday night fixture as defences dominated in a hard-fought goalless draw between Welshpool Town and Llandrindod Wells.
