BORTH United were unable to build on their morale-boosting Central Wales Cup win at Aberystwyth University as they were swept aside in a 5-0 defeat against Radnor Valley in the Spar Mid Wales League division two.

The home side were immediately on the front foot as Steve Morgan pulled an early effort wide of goal, and Matt Croose headed over from a corner.

Radnor’s early pressure paid-off on the quarter-hour, however, as Morgan finished from close range, after Ieuan Price’s shot had missed the target.

The hosts doubled their lead almost straight after the restart as Joey Price cut inside, before finding the far corner of the net with a neat low drive.

With Radnor well on top, Price then latched onto a neat 20th minute through ball, but keeper Alex Pennock stood up tall to turn the shot away.

Just another three minutes, however, Elliot Morris went on a driving run and the loose ball was eventually converted at the far post by Morgan.

Joey Price pulled a low free-kick wide, and Morgan almost completed his hat-trick in the 41st minute when he headed over Liam Jones’ cross.

Three minutes after the break, Radnor made it 4-0 when Ieaun Price’s low 20 yard effort deceived the keeper.

Further pressure saw Ieaun Price’s shot being saved, and Joey Price did not quite connect with an attempted bicycle kick, before Morgan completed his treble in stoppage time, after Pennock had parried Joey Price’s shot.

On Friday evening, Llanidloes had missed a chance to turn up the heat in their chase for Spar Mid Wales League division one honours when they were held to a 1-1 draw away at Berriew.

Josh Hartrick’s first goal for the club gave the Daffs the lead midway through the first half, when latching onto a through ball to beat Berriew’s debutant goalkeeper Gareth Barker.

The home side were back on level terms 10 minutes later when a 30-yard cross-shot from Mark Jones fell for Matt Mumford, who poked the ball home past keeper Aaron Warrick.

Llani had enough chances to have taken the spoils, with Mathew Savage shooting over when well placed, while also going close with a header.

George Clarke also had a shot cleared of the line and the visitors were also denied by the woodwork.

Aberaeron made the long journey home with a share of the spoils as goals by Chris Wilkins and Elwyn Edwards earned a 2-2 draw at border club Churchstoke, with Tony Meredith and Andrew Green replying.Despite falling behind, Aberaeron’s James Hemmings and Mikey Gornall bossed the midfield and Liam Jaques created all sorts of problems for the home defence.

From a slick Aberaeron move, Hemmings put Chris Wilkins through on goal for a very good equaliser. Aberaeron continued to put pressure on the home defence and the home keeper did well to keep the game level.

Following numerous corners, Elwyn Edwards rose magnificently to thunder an unstoppable header in to the roof of the net.

It looked like three points for the visitors with only 10 minutes to go, but with the clock ticking a needless free kick saw the ball headed by the Aberaeron defence only to fall at the feet of a Churchstoke player who swivelled to slide the ball under Ollie Farebrother for the equaliser.

Bow Street avenged their defeat in Llanfair United the previous weekend with an excellent 2-1 win over their third-placed opponents at Cae Piod.

In a reverse scoreline of the previous weekend, goals from Rhun Garner and Steffan Richards earned the Magpies their seventh win of the campaign, with Paul Griffiths replying.

Welshpool Town meanwhile moved eight points clear at the top as a hat-trick from Adam Davies and one each from Will Thomas and Ian Probert sealed a 5-0 win against Llandrindod.

Carno moved up to third position with a 6-1 win over struggling Machynlleth, with Scott Williams and Peter Rees both scoring twice, along with single goals by Andy Evans and Jac Petrie. Callum Page netted the reply.

In the Spar Mid Wales League Cup, Knighton Town marched into the second round as goals from Sam Williams and Gareth Mansell, from the penalty spot, earned the Radnor Robins a 2-0 win away against Tywyn/Bryncrug.
