Nefyn United, losing finalists in the Gwynedd League’s Safeflue Shield last season, booked passage to the second round with a 2-1 win over Talysarn Celts last weekend.
Carl Jones netted the opening goal after just six minutes at Cae’r Delyn, and Lukacs Baltovic doubled the lead a minute into the second half.
Celt Owen trimmed the arrears for Talysarn on 56 minutes, but Chris Jones’ side held out in the wind and rain to secure their safe passage.
Nefyn will entertain Menai Bridge Tigers in the Shield’s second round on 20 April.
Llanystumdwy, after four straight defeats, marched on top the second round as 2-0 winners at Llangoed, despite the visitors being without a recognised goalkeeper.
With regular Caron Hughes unavailable, outfield player Mark Godfrey volunteered to go between the posts and he made some significant saves.
Sion Pierce headed in Kyle Williams in-swinging corner kick to open the scoring after 40 minutes, and that was all that separated the teams for most of the second period.
Llanystumdwy finally sealed a hard-earned win on 80 minutes, when another Williams cross was met by Darren Parry, who powered home a close range volley.
Llanystumdwy will be at home to Bontnewydd in the second round on 6 April.
Holders Gwalchmai were dumped out of the competition by visitors Waunfawr, who won 4-3 om penalties at the Maes Meurig ground.
Gwalchmai looked comfortable when two goals up, through Declan Jones on 9 minutes and Gwion Thomas on 24, but Waunfawr hit back through Adam Jones on 44 and Sion Roberts with the crucial equaliser after 63.
In a second round tie, Glantraeth won 3-2 at Bro Goronwy, courtesy of netted efforts from Rory Kelly on 5 minutes, Andy Clarke on 27 and Nick Clark on 38, with replies from Jamie Jones on 36 and Jac Thomas on 58.
In the only Gwynedd League match played last weekend, Menai Bridge Tigers romped to a 6-1 triumph at lowly Mynydd Tigers, to move within two points of top team Gwalchmai, and with two games-in-hand.
Menai Bridge featured a hat-trick by Callum Davidson, who found the home target on 39, 49 and 65 minutes and was backed up by Sion Hogan on 64, Shaun Lock on 80 and Dean Redmond on 85.
Mynydd had scored the lead-taking goal from Kieron Bullock after 28 minutes, but it went downhill after that.
