NEFYN United claimed local bragging rights after edging rivals Pwllheli 4-3 in a pulsating seven-goal Lock Stock Ardal North West derby at Cae’r Delyn on Saturday.
After a closely contested first half, the hosts broke the deadlock five minutes before the interval when Tomi Evans finished off good work from Steffan Toplis.
Toplis then doubled Nefyn’s advantage shortly after the restart, putting the Penwaig firmly in control. However, Pwllheli responded immediately, and 18-year-old substitute Osian Thomas made an instant impact by reducing the deficit on 57 minutes.
Any hopes of a comeback were checked when Ifan Jones restored Nefyn’s two-goal cushion six minutes later. Toplis then grabbed his second goal of the afternoon to make it 4-1 and seemingly put the result beyond doubt.
Pwllheli refused to give in. Osian Jones combined well with Thomas to pull a goal back and set up a tense finale. Another substitute, Charlie Griffith, added a third for the visitors with three minutes remaining, but Nefyn stood firm to secure all three points and move level on 13 points with their derby rivals.
At the top of the table, Trearddur Bay maintained their lead with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Penmaenmawr Phoenix. Chris Parry scored twice, with Liam Morris also on target.
Second-placed Llannefydd came from behind to beat Connah’s Quay Town 2-1. Olaf Sarnecki gave the visitors a half-time lead before Sam Jones and Tomos Salisbury turned the game around after the break.
Elsewhere, Gruff John struck twice as Felinheli won 3-0 at Mynydd Isa, while Tyler Joyce’s first-half goal earned NFA a 1-0 victory at Bethesda Athletic.
Llay Welfare enjoyed a 4-1 success at Llangefni Town thanks to goals from Cavan Daley (2), William Nevvitt and Ellis Hickey, while Llanrwst United defeated Kinmel Bay 2-0 through Rhys Hughes and Luke O’Mahoney.
