NEFYN United gained the distinction of being the first club to stop the Gwynedd League’s runaway leaders, Menai Bridge Tigers, in their tracks, as they forced a 1-1 draw at Cae’r Delyn last weekend.
The Anglesey team had swept through their first eight matches, winning the lot and amassing of 29 goals in the process, but Chris Jones’ side rose to the challenge.
Kelvin Fraser had fired the Tigers ahead on 30 minutes, when rifling into the net after a short corner, but Nefyn showed characted to level matters on 75 minutes.
Llion Bryn Jones burst towards the visitors’ target at an acute angle on the right and found the narrow gap between the keeper and a post to earn his side a point.
Meanwhile Llanystumdwy had cause to celebrate as they upset the odds by winning 5-3 away against Bro Goronwy, for their first league win in 11th attempts.
After an evenly contested first half, Bro Goronwy edged a 2-1 lead, with goals by Tom Wood on 12 minutes and Connor Jones on 40, with Morgan Griffiths replying for the bottom placed team on 21.
Wood netted again for the hosts on 67 minutes, but Llanystumdwy’s Rob Griffiths, the brother of Morgan, unleashed a powerful 20-yard free-kick on 55 minutes.
Bradley Williams also netted on 59 and then Morgan Griffiths pounced with his second on 82, and Bradley Williams netted again on 87 to seal a welcome win.

The Aberforeshore-based side had led by the only goal, from Kevin Barlow on five minutes, right up to the final moments of the 90 minutes, when Kieron Bullock equalised to force extra-time.
In the end-to-end exchanges that ensued, Waunfawr went ahead through Marc Greasley on 101 minutes, but Mynydd’s Mike Lewis Williams equalised at 2-2 on 103 minutes, and the winning goal was scored by Meurig Parry on 105.
Gwalchmai beat Llangoed 5-0, thanks to Craig Evans netting on 11 minutes, with a penalty, and on 40, Gwion Thomas on 54 and 61 and Gareth Wyn Roberts on 85.
