NEFYN United leapfrogged to fourth spot from seventh in the Gwynedd League rankings with the rewards gained from a 5-0 home win over Bontnewydd in the first clash between the clubs this season.
The Cae’r Delyn hosts, who are trailing in their league programme because of cup commitments, took charge in the first half by scoring four goals in a 25 minute spell.
Gethin Trenholme opened Nefyn’s account on 10 minutes, Ifan Gwilym also scored on 15, as did joint player-manager Steve Jones on 22 and Iolo Jones on 35.
The second half exchanges were more subdued for a good while, as Nefyn eased inevitably towards the three points, but then Josh Dorkins added goal number five in the closing eight minutes of play.
Llanystumdwy, back in action after two blank weekends, when Bethesda Athletic withdrew from a couple of commitments, travelled to face Waunfawr but were outperformed on the day by a 6-2 scoreline.
The bulk of the damage was imposed by the rampant home side midway through the first half, with four goals rattled into the Dwyfor Park side’s target in the space of 24 minutes, as against two replies.
Waunfawr’s Shaun Roberts found the net on nine minutes, Tomos Owen on 25, Roberts again on 27 and Ioan Gwynedd on 31, while the visitors’ Sion Pierce hit back on 26 and Guto Roberts on 33.
Llanystumdwy’s woes worsened from being 4-2 down at the interval to conceding half-a-dozen goals in all, when the hosts’ Meurig Parry resumed the scoring on 55 minutes and Thomas Usher on 62.
Bangor 1876 meanwhile moved up menacingly into second position in the table, just a single point behind the league leaders Trearddur Bay Bulls, by achieving their ninth straight success, this time at Caergybi by a convincing 6-0 scoreline.
Only one goal separated the sides at half-time, with Bangor’s Cian Williams netting on 14 minutes, but then followed the second period take-over, with a glut of goals from Jamie Petrie on 51 and 80 minutes, Ben Lundstram on 66 and Dylan Summers-Jones on 73 and 89 minutes.
The three matches were postponed, due to unfit grounds were Llanerchymedd v Menai Bridge Tigers, Ogwen Tigers v Glantraeth and Talysarn Celts v Llangoed.
