NEFYN United’s Gethin Trenholme laid claim to having scored the quickest goal of the season in the Gwynedd League so far, when he took barely 30 seconds to find Bro Goronwy’s net.
The Anglesey visitors, and league newcomers this term, were mere bystanders as Nefyn swept forward from the kick-off to achieve a four-pass right-wing move, involving Daniel Roberts and Ifan Jones, ahead of Trenholme’s finish from six yards.
That proved to be the opening shot in Nefyn’s impressive 3-1 home win over Bro Goronwy in this encounter between teams far apart in the rankings, fifth bottom against fifth top.
Bro Goronwy equalised briefly on 39 minutes, when Sam Roberts converted a disputed penalty, for a seemingly harsh hand-ball decision, but the hosts then quickly regained the lead four minutes later through Zac Allanson, with a right-angled effort.
Nefyn stepped up several gears in the second half, as they mounted a series of attacks, in which they hit the opposition woodwork twice and forced visiting keeper Jonathan Hawkes into a number of fine saves.
Victory was clinched, however, only when Dylan Sion Jones scored Nefyn’s third five minutes from the end.
Llanystumdwy finished as second best to leaders Bodedern Athletic, whose 2-0 win at Dwyfor Park came about courtesy of a double whammy of goals late on, from Matty Jones and Eric Leach on 72 and 77 minutes.
Harlech Town were meanwhile beaten 3-2 at second-placed Bontnewydd but gave a creditable show, having rallied from being three clear goals down at half-time to close up with two replies in the second spell.
Bontnewydd’s confidence had been built on strikes by Rhys Roberts on 14 minutes from a penalty, Daniel Evans on 18 and Terry Watkinson on 40, but Harlech’s fight-back began with Joe Soar’s reply a minute after the break.
When Soar steered home a second goal for Harlech from a free-kick on 85 minutes that sparked a furious finale, in which the uplifted visitors battled eagerly for the equaliser but it ultiumately proved beyond them.
Beaumaris Town beat Waunfawr 2-1, thanks to goals from Darren Ishmael on 12 minutes and Matthew Head with the deciding goal on 78, after the away team’s reply goal by Ioan Gwynedd, from the spot, after 64.
Two matches were postponed - Bethesda Athletic v Talysarn Celts, because of a mix-up over the appointment of a referee, and Menai Bridge Tigers v Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs, because the pitch was waterlogged.
