NEFYN United raised eyebrows within Gwynedd League circles, when they completely outperformed strongly tipped Bro Goronwy 3-1 on their own ground.
Unbeaten in three matches, Nefyn imposed themselves early at the Moelfre ground by scoring on 10 and 12 minutes, through Steve Jones and Ifan Jones.
Bro Goronwy’s Callum Davidson pulled one back on 35 minutes, only for new manager Chris Jones’s rampant visitors to secure the points with a 62nd minutes penalty tucked away by Danny Roberts.
Referee Arwel Jones adjudged that Rob Tiesteels had handled inside the penalty box, and he was later awarded his second yellow card and sent off on 69 minutes.
Nefyn coasted to the victory, with Steve Jones coming close to increasing their lead, whilst free-kicks by Iwan Roberts and Danny Roberts crashed against the woodwork, whilst Gareth Williams miscued a simple chance close to the target.
In midweek, Nefyn had beat local rivals Llanystumdwy 3-2, with goals from Iwan Roberts, Zac Allanson and Ifan Jones, whilst Sion Parry scored both the replies.
Bontnewydd, who topped the Gwynedd table for long periods last season before being pushed down to third place, renewed their title ambitions in a 3-1 show against Talysarn Celts last weekend.
Rhys Roberts scored twice for Bontnewydd on 3 and 45 minutes and, after Mabon Huws had replied on 54 minutes, the win was confirmed by the home team’s third goal from Gareth Edwards after 63.
Beaumaris Town beat the returning club Llanllyfni 5-0, thanks mainly to a hat-trick by Shaun Lock, netting on 35, 55 and 84 minutes, plus single strikes by Robbie Jones on 60 and Matthew Roberts on 81.
In midweek action, Holyhead Town beat Gwalchmai 8-2, Llangoed lost 4-0 at home to Bro Goronwy, Menai Bridge Tigers drew 2-2 with Beaumaris Town, Talysarn Celts beatLlanllyfni 1-0 and Waunfawr were beaten 3-1 at home to Bontnewydd.
