NEFYN United staged a second half take-over to beat Waunfawr 4-2 and complete a home-and-away double over their Gwynedd League visitors last weekend.

The sixth-versus-seventh-placed clash at Cae’r Delyn proved to be evenly contested in an enthralling opening half.

Nefyn’s Daniel Roberts opened the scoring on 17 minutes, but then Rhodri Owen equalised on 23, and Meurig Parry put the visitors ahead on the half-hour.

Six minutes remained to the interval, when Chris Jones’ hosts regained parity through Dylan Sion Jones, and they went on to win with goals by Carl Jones on 56 and a Dylan Sion Jones peanlty on 77.

Llanystumdwy slipped to a 4-1 Gwynedd Cup semi-final defeat at Bro Goronwy, who had taken charge with goals from Tom Wood after 23 minutes and then Joe Thomas soon after on 26.

Woods scored again on 50 minutes, and although Kyle Williams netted a reply on 64 minutes, Bro Goronwy swept upfield from the restart for Callum Thomas to fire their fourth goal within 60 seconds.

Bro Goronwy, who were losing finalists in this competition last season to Holyhead Town, will take on either Menai Bridge Tigers or Nefyn United in the final, and their postponed semi-final is rearranged for this Saturday, 30 March.

• Talysarn Celts became the third Gwynedd League club to qualify for the North Wales Coast Junior Cup’s semi-finals, when they won their three-times-postponed tie against Llanfairfechan.

The fourth round clash, which had been called off twice, because Celts’ Gloddfa Clai pitch had been waterlogged, was switched to Llanfairfechan’s Promenade ground, and the visitors led for most of it.

Jack Jones led the way for Talysarn with a hat-trick, netting after 12, 47 and 50 minutes, whereas the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy hosts managed replies from Robin Roberts on 25 and Ellis Jones on 55.

Talysarn’s defence then stood firm to book a semi-final tie at home against Bryngwran Bulls, the Anglesey League’s leaders, on Saturday, 13 April, whereas the other last-four tie, between Bro Goronwy and Menai Bridge Tigers, is booked for a week earlier, on 6 April.
