NEWCASTLE Emlyn moved to within five points of Costcutter Ceredigion Division One leaders Llandysul as they recorded a 2-0 success against Dewi Stars.
The Reds started well and they broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Huw Jones slotted home a penalty, following a hand ball.The Stars fought back, but Ben Thomas came on for his first game and scored with a neat finish to kill the game off.
Cardigan Town retained second spot in the division with a 2-0 win against a New Quay team who could only muster 11 players, with veteran Colin Jones sportingly coming out of retirement to help out the side.
Ewan Jones bagged two of his team’s goals and skipper Iestyn Evans provided the third goal, courtesy of an excellent strike.
St Dogmaels put together their strongest side of the season for their trip to Aberaeron Reserves and secured a solid 3-0 victory.
After a bright start, John Migley had opened their account on the half-hour, following a great through ball from Rhys Jones.

In division two, Pencader were held to a 2-2 draw by fellow title contenders Llanboidy in a hard fought tussle at Pencader Park.
The hosts took an early lead when Rhodri Rees netted, but they lost a player to a red card and Llanboidy turned the tables after the break through Ross McDonald and Rhodri George.
Dan Jones, however, fired a sweetly struck free kick to earn his side a share of the spoils.
Aberporth won 4-0 at SDUC with goals by Craig Wilkes, Dan Nicholl with a brace, and Liam Griffiths from the penalty spot.

HOLDERS Crannog got through a very tough opening round in the Costcutter Ceredigon League Cup with a 2-0 win, but they were given a huge fright against second division outfit Maesglas.
Skipper Mike Glover headed home a Rhys Davies corner after half an hour, and midway through the second half referee Jeff Hearn adjudged that Huw Reed had been pulled down in the box, and Chris Welch slotted the penalty.
Llandysul, who have blazed a trail at the top of division one, cruised through into the next round as they comfortably disposed of Bargod Rangers by 7-0.
The Swallows went ahead after only five minutes when Scott Thomas volleyed home from 10 yards, and just nine minutes later the same player got his second goal - before Matthew Newbold then made the score 3-0 at half time.
Further second half goals from Simon Davies, Maynard, and a brace from Dean Jones, including one from the penalty spot, sealed an emphatic win.
Felinfach sneaked through following a penalty shoot out against Cilgerran after their match had finished goalless.
Goalkeeper Owain Williams was the hero of the hour for the Milkmen as he saved penalties from Aaron Williams, Louis Harding and John Williams.
