PADARN United progressed to the second round of the Len and Julia Newman Memorial Trophy as they hit back from being three goals down to claim a thrilling 5-4 extra time win over Tregaron Turfs.

Llyr Davies had headed the Turfs in front after a pinpoint cross from Ifan Jones, and they doubled their lead when Llion Thomas whipped in a corner, which came off a defender and ended in the back of the net.

Tregaron looked to have one foot in the next round when they made it 3-0 in the second half, when a long ball from the back from Sam Jones put Llyr Davies through on goal to fire home into the bottom corner.

The Turfs had one or two chances to put the game to bed, but probably went too defensive in the last 20 minutes to see the game out, and Padarn captain Richard Williams pounced with a sublime finish to make it 3-1.

Padarn kept pushing forward, and new signing Robbie Southgate made it 3-2, before Jason Davies struck the equaliser with a sublime finish from the edge of the area with just minutes to go.

Further Padarn pressure was rewarded in extra time as Tegid Owen and Robbie Southgate scored to make it 5-3, before Tregaron were reduced to 10 men after a fracus in the Padarn area.

Tregaron pulled it back to 5-4 with a perfectly taken Gareth Davies free-kick hitting the top left corner of the net, but Padarn held on in what was an extremely exciting and entertaining tie.

Bont made it though after seeing off a much improved Llanon with a 4-1 win, with several key players missing.

They opened the scoring after 20 minutes with an unstoppable volley from Lee Jones, after a cleared corner fell to him 20 yards out.

Within five minutes the visitors were level as Bont’s defence was caught napping and Simon Lovatt raced through to fire in under the on-rushing Trevor Jenkins.

The hosts pushed on in the second half and went ahead when substitute David Beck tapped home from six yards out, and they then added a third after good work and a cool finish from Ben Lewis.

Bont finished off the spirited second division side off when Dion Davies drilled home with 15 minutes remaining, to send the holders through to the next round.

Division two side Penparcau hit back to claim a 2-1 win over Llanilar, with Lee Morgan scoring the winner.

With Ryan Williams and Dylan Bailey back from suspension, Penparcau started well against a strong wind.

On the half hour, however, a defensive error by the hosts saw Llanilar take the lead with a good finish from just inside the penalty box.

Penparcau pressed forward, and after handball in the box Craig Gore saw his penalty saved, but he then tapped home the rebound.

Then, on 50 minutes, Warren Sedgwick came on up front for Penparcau, and from a corner he rose above the defence to head across goal for goal machine Lee Morgan to head the winner.

Last season’s finalists Talybont were beaten for the second time this season at Machynlleth Reserves by 2-1.

Chris Wylde netted for Talybont, but two goals by Paul Jones sealed the win.

Tywyn/Bryncrug knocked out Borth Reserves 4-1, with goals from Ben Richards, Stephen Washbrook, Josh Taylor and John Horton, Rob Crumpler replying.

Aberystwyth University Reserves made a winning start to their new campaign in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League division one as they registered a 4-2 home verdict against Penrhyncoch Reserves.

Goals from Ows ap Gareth, Callum Simons, Dion Roberts and an own goal earned the students their first three points of the term, as Penrhyncoch crashed to their seventh league defeat from eight matches so far this season.

In division two, Padarn Reserves sealed a solid 1-1 draw at Llanilar Reserves, with Graham Thomas scoring a late equaliser from a free kick for the visitors to earn them a deserved point.
