ABERYSTWYTH Town have officially appointed Tony Pennock as their new first team manager, with Wayne Jones reappointed as assistant manager for their next Welsh Premier League campaign.
Pennock, a Pro Licence holder, had taken over as caretaker manager in April, and along with Jones, they oversaw the Seasiders' final battle against relegation.
Wins at Llandudno and at home to Rhyl ensured the Seasiders secured their status with one game to spare.
Matthew Bishop, who was asked to stand aside from his role as first team manager in March, after less than a season in charge, has formally left the Club.
Chairman Donald Kane said that the Club was delighted to secure Pennock’s role as team manager, and it will serve as a timely appointment before the pre-season gets under way.
“After a season of transition, it was important to have some continuity, to ensure the spirit that the side showed in late March and April is carried through to next season,” said Kane.
“Tony’s vast experience within the game, and his relationship with Wayne and the players, made him the standout candidate, and we are delighted to confirm him in the role.
“Wayne also made a huge contribution to the team’s improvement at the end of the season, and it was only right that he should be reinstated as Assistant Manager at the Club.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’d also like to express my gratitude to Matthew Bishop for his hard work at the Club over the past year and sincerely wish him all the best.”
Pennock was appointed as assistant manager in April to ensure that the club met the domestic licence criteria, after being informed that interim manager Wayne Jones’ qualification as an A Licence coach had expired.
Pennock, who has a Uefa Pro Licence qualification, had held the position of First Team Coach at Premier League Hull City until January 2017.
After joining Hull City as academy coach in 2014, he was promoted to first team coach under former boss Mike Phelan, but was released three months later when the Tigers installed Marco Silva as their manager.
The former goalkeeper, who played for Farnborough, Stockport, Wigan, Hereford, Yeovil and Rushden and Diamonds, previously managed Port Talbot and the Welsh Semi-Pro side.
He has also been the head of Youth Development at Swansea City FC.
Meanwhile the Club is delighted to confirm that the FAW Trust last week re-admitted Wayne Jones to their A Licence course, meaning he can resume the role of assistant manager.
