PENRHYNCOCH Gari Lewis praised his team’s never-say-die attitude after picking up a last-gasp 1-1 draw away at Flint Town United in the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance last weekend.

With five players out, the Roosters had to dig deep after falling behind to a second half penalty from Mark Cadwallader, but they earned parity with a brave header from Liam Lewis as the visitors pushed forward late on.

“I’m immensely proud of the boys, who showed a lot of spirit to come back like they did,” said Lewis, whose side moved up one place to 10th.

“With the players we had out, it was going to be tough, so I’m delighted to come away with a point. Even their manager said we deserved a draw.

“It was a massive effort from everybody. There were some fantastic performances, with Liam getting the goal, and Carwyn Jones doing ever so well after coming in at centre half.

“Flint are a strong side, with quality all the way through. They are geared for the Welsh Premier, and I expect them to be in the top three or four.

“But we worked ever so hard, had a system, and we can take a lot of confidence from the way we played.”

Carwyn Jones impressed at centre half after coming in for defenders Sion James and Elwyn Edwards, who were both at weddings.

Matt Mousley was also out with a back spasm and striker Rhun Garner was working, while forward Steff Davies failed a late fitness test on his thigh strain.

Nashawn Blake, who had only arrived back in the country from Canada at 4am that day, made the kick-off, after getting a train to the match.

Penrhyn are proving a tough nut to crack this term, and they face another test of their credentials in Saturday’s big home encounter with high flying Airbus UK Broughton (2.30pm).The Wingmakers flew to the top of the Cymru Alliance last weekend, as they leap-frogged previously-unbeaten league leaders Guilsfield with a 3-0 win at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium. The win was thoroughly-deserved, with Andy Thomas's men taking the spoils with a brace from Alfons Fosu-Mensah - who took his season's goal tally to five - and John Davies.“I’ve seen footage of their 3-0 win against Guilsfield last week and they looked awesome,” said Lewis.

“They have a beast of a player in Alfons Fosu-Mensah, whose brother Timothy is at Crystal Palace, but we will have a plan to deal with him.

“It’s a brilliant game for a small club like ours to look forward to.”

Lewis will be hoping that Davies can prove his fitness following his thigh injury as fellow front runner Jonathan Evans will miss out as he is away this weekend through work.

At Flint, chances were in short supply in a cagey first period, with Sion Meredith hitting a rising shot over the bar, whilst Liam Lewis also stung the hands of keeper Nik Lee-Bulmer.

Flint took the lead with a penalty on 56 minutes when keeper Leigh Jenkins flattened Richie Foulkes with a misjudged punch as he attempted to clear, and sub Mark Cadwallader confidently dispatched the penalty.

Penrhyn snatched a deserved equaliser ion 89 minutes as keeper Lee-Bulmer hesitated following a ball into the box, and Liam Lewis bravely nipped in to loop a header into the net.
