PENRHYNCOCH boss Gari Lewis believes it’s all to play for in the Spar Mid Wales League title race as his side prepare to visit Llanidloes Town tonight (Wednesday) - while leaders Knighton Town face a tricky trip to Carno.

Dean Evans scored twice as Penrhyn kept their hopes alive with a 5-1 home success against local rivals Machynlleth at Cae Baker last Wednesday - reducing Knighton Town’s lead at the top to seven points.

Penrhyncoch still have two games in hand, but Lewis insists that the Radnor Robins remain firmly in the driving seat.

“Hopefully, Carno can do us a favour, if they can take points off them it will give us hope,” said Lewis.

“It’s a big night for the title race, and there could still be a few ifs and buts. Every game’s a must-win, but we won’t be giving up, that’s for sure.”

Penrhyn took charge against Machynlleth with three goals in the first half, with the first coming on 13 minutes when Jon Foligno got his head to a Mark Gornall free kick, and Dean Evans nodded the ball home from close range.

Foligno doubled the advantage six minutes later when forcing in a Gornall corner after the visitors had failed to clear, and it was 3-0 on 27 minutes with a fine strike from the edge of the box by Arron Lemon.

Dean Evans, enjoying his role in the starting line-up, smashed in a fourth on 63 minutes from outside the area, before Richie Evans pulled one back for Mach.

Penrhyn, however, had the last word as substitute Sion Meredith turned back the clock by producing a powerful finish.

• Carno meanwhile consolidated their top three position in midweek as goals from Gregg Brown, Ioan Humphreys and a brace from Peter Rees earned them a solid 4-0 win away against Waterloo Rovers.

Llanidloes staged a stirring second half fightback last weekend to win 3-2 against Waterloo, who finished with nine men.

The Daffs had trailed 2-0 at the interval to goals from Neil Pryce and Luke Evans, but turned it around in an eventful second half, courtesy of two replies from substitute George Clarke and a late winning goal from fellow sub Adrian Foulkes.

Machynlleth were beaten 3-0 last weekend at home to Llandrindod Wells, who had opened the scoring when Richie Powell was played in by Ashley Jones to score.

Shaun Nicholls doubled the lead following a Joel Layton corner, and the Wellmen sealed their victory when Powell followed up on a Robbie Nicholls shot to score.

Machynlleth travel to face Bow Street tonight (Wednesday), whilst Aberaeron are at home against Tywyn/Bryncrug.
