PENRHYNCOCH have moved quickly to rearrange their JD Welsh Cup first round tie against FC Nomads of Connah’s Quay after they were left frustrated by a waterlogged pitch at Cae Baker.
It was a disappointing outcome for both camps following heavy overnight and morning rain, but a local referee had no option but to call it off following an early inspection with water lying on the pitch.
The two sides wasted little time in rearranging the game for tonight (Tuesday), with an 8pm kick off.
"Although the weather improved during the day, it was the right decision," said Penrhyn player boss Gari Lewis.
"The goalmouths were under water, and when you walked on the pitch, it was so wet that it left footmarks.
"The pitch is in great shape at the moment, and had we played, it would have ripped it to shreds, so common sense prevailed.
"Putting the game back a few days has given some of the lads more time to get over injuries, but we’re still going to be without five or six for what is going to be a really tough game."
After the Welsh Cup tie, the Roosters turn their attention to the first round of the Huws Gray Cup when they host Holywell Town on Saturday.
"The Welsh Cup is a massive competition, that’s our priority, but we also take the league cup seriously and would love to progress in that as well," added Lewis.
His selection plans are hampered with Dafydd Carruthers sidelined for a month with a hamstring injury, while Florin Burcea could be out for at least three weeks after damaging his shoulder.
Antonio Corbisiero and Josh Shaw are still a few weeks away from returning following their injuries, while Sion Meredith suffered cracked ribs in the game against Guilsfield.
