HOLDERS Penrhyncoch started their defence of the Spar Mid Wales League Cup with a 4-1 victory at 10-man Aberystwyth University - and now face a second round trip to Llanidloes Town.

Boss Gari Lewis was happy to avoid an upset against their second division hosts who had taken the lead through Liam Powell before being reduced to 10 men for a handball offence.

Goals from Josh Shaw, Jonathan Evans, Matt Mousley and Nathan Warren ensured the Roosters progressed, and they now face Llanidloes away on Friday, November 27.

Before then, Penrhyn gear up for another big cup excursion on Saturday at home to Anglesey club Trearddur Bay in the second round of the Welsh Cup.

The prize is a place in the last 32 of the Welsh Cup, a guaranteed £1,000 and the chance to meet a Welsh Premier club. However, the Anglesey visitors will be a tough nut to crack as they currently lie fourth and unbeaten in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance with five wins and four draws.

The Roosters will be without unavailable striker Mattie Davies who also missed last weekend’s Spar League Cup tie at the university who stunned their visitors by taking a 23rd minute lead with a swift break.
