LEADERS Penrhyncoch stayed two points clear at top of the Spar Mid Wales League division one after Mattie Davies scored the only goal in their 1-0 victory against improving Llanidloes Town at Cae Baker.
It was a creditable response after the previous week’s disappointing 1-0 FAW Trophy defeat at Wrexham side Queens Park, who snatched the fifth round victory with a last-gasp penalty.
Manager Gari Lewis was full of praise for his side, who remain undefeated in the league, and who have adapted well after losing some key players this season.
"They boys are still unbeaten in the league, and deserve a lot of credit," he said.
"People also forget that we have lost some big players this season.
"Jonathan Evans joined Aberystwyth Town last month, captain Owain James is working away in New Zealand and Liam James has been out for three months with a shoulder injury.
"On top of that, we had Josh Shaw suspended for two games on Saturday, so there are a lot of positives at the way we have dealt with losing these players.
"Llani are massively improved under Hugh Clarke who has done a great job there since taking charge.
"It took time to break them down in really difficult conditions, but we stuck at it. In the end, it was a good result for us, and a clean sheet was again pleasing."
