PENRHYNCOCH boss Gari Lewis is delighted to bring young striker Liam Doherty back to Cae Baker, to boost his side’s prospects of survival within the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance.

Doherty figured for the Roosters last season, but left to join Aberystwyth Town’s under-19s this season in the Welsh Development League.

However, with his side’s injury list growing, Lewis has moved to bring back the 18-year-old forward, who will go straight into this Saturday’s trip to leaders Caernarfon Town.

“I’m chuffed to bits to get him back,” said Lewis. “He was with us last season, is a real talent and is desperate to prove himself in senior football.

“He’s scored 14 goals in 11 games in the Welsh Development League this season, so is a real goal threat, and I want to thank Aberystwyth for their help in doing the paperwork.”

Doherty’s return comes with Nashawn Blake joining the casualty list at Cae Baker, after breaking his hand in a University game. He is likely to be out for around six weeks.

Steff Davies remains on the sidelines with his thigh injury, but could be back earlier than expected with the forward hoping to play in their Central Wales Challenge Cup tie against Welshpool Town on 3 January.

After last weekend’s home fixture with Holywell was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, the Roosters return to action on Saturday with a testing trip to high flying Caernarfon.

“They are one of the biggest non-league clubs in Wales, and it’s a great ground to play at, a privilege for us.

“We know it’s going to be tough, but we will go there with a game plan, and will be mindful that on our day we can be a difficult side to beat.”

Rob Murfet, who was sent off in the Welsh Cup defeat at The New Saints, is ruled out with a two-match suspension, while Antonio Corbisiero faces a fitness check on a foot injury.
