PENRHYNCOCH failed to capitalise on their one-man advantage as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat to Flint Town, to remain in the lower reaches of the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance table.
The Roosters had pulled level at 2-2 with Mark Gornall’s penalty, his second goal of the game, after Flint keeper Ben Jones was dismissed for bringing down Dafydd Carruthers.
A 58th minute free kick from former Wrexham man Levi Mackin, however, secured victory for 10-man Flint, to move second in the Cymru Alliance.
Penrhyn, by contrast, remain fourth from bottom in a congested table, one of four teams on 10 points, but just four points adrift of Buckley in ninth.
Flint, on a good run, were always going to prove a tough test at Cae Baker, and they forced the first chance when keeper Lee Jenkins made a smart reaction save to deny Kyle Smyth.
Penrhyn, however, took the lead on nine minutes when Mark Gornall curled in a free kick after Carruthers was fouled on the edge of the box.
Jenkins was again called into action to thwart the oncoming Smyth, but, despite saving from James Hooper, he could not prevent Smyth from levelling matters on 19 minutes when the striker lashed home the rebound.
The visitors were in front on 28 minutes when breaking quickly before Luke Douglas crossed for the lively Smyth to net his second of the game.
In an eventful opening, Penrhyn were back on terms five minutes later when Carruthers was hauled down and he rounded Flint keeper Jones, who was subsequently red-carded.
Flint introduced reserve keeper Danny McAdam from the bench, but he was beaten by Gornall’s spot kick for his second goal of the game.
With almost two-thirds of the game still to go, 10-man Flint maintained a positive approach and in the second half Smyth and Hooper ran tirelessly at the Penrhyn defence, giving them very little time to dwell on the ball.
On 58 minutes they went in front when Mackin was fouled 22 yards out in a central position, and he smashed his free kick into the top of the goal.
Penrhyn had a good chance to level matters on the hour mark when Carruthers broke through, but McAdam pulled off a fine save to block the shot.
At the other end, Smyth released Hooper who outpaced the defence and forced Jenkins into a good save.
For the remainder of the match, Flint looked to use the pace of Smyth and Hooper to hit their opponents on the break, while looking solid at the back in repelling any attacks by the hosts.
With two minutes to go, Penrhyn had a good opportunity when the ball was half cleared to Jack Rimmer, who fired wide of goal when well placed.
Moments later, McAdam found himself penalised for holding onto the ball for more than the requisite six seconds, but the Roosters could not capitalise from the indirect free kick.
