ANOTHER assured display kept Penrhyncoch on course for safety in the Cymru Alliance after dispatching struggling Llandudno Junction 4-1 at Cae Baker last weekend.
After their 3-1 win over lowly Queens Park the week before, the Roosters continued the good work with another valuable three points as league survival nears.
Victory, their third in four games, has taken Penrhyncoch 14 points clear of third-from-bottom Caersws, and they are now 21 points above Queens Park.
The Roosters led 2-0 at the break against Llandudno, thanks to Steff Davies and Sion James before an own goal put them three ahead early in the second period.
Nick Clarke pulled one back, before Penrhyn’s leading scorer Jonathan Evans had the last word with his side’s fourth.
Now unbeaten in four outings, the Cae Baker men are in sight of safety, but boss Gari Lewis is taking nothing for granted.
“People have been saying we’re almost safe now, but there’s still a lot of football to be played,” asserted the Penrhyn boss.
“We’re on a nice little run now, it must be up there with one of our best. But if Caersws go on a five-match winning run and we start slipping up, then we’re back in trouble, so we can’t afford to ease up.”
He added: “There were loads of good things again on Saturday. It was a top team performance, and I was delighted with our work-rate and the spirit shown.
“We were in control at 3-0, then had a bit of a rocky patch when they scored, but once we got the fourth it killed them off,
“It’s no coincidence that this run has come at a time we’ve got players back, and I’m sure if we had this team for most of the season, we would be mid-table.”
The Roosters started well against a Llandudno side still looking for their first league win of the season, with Steff Davies just dragging his shot wide of the target from Cledan Davies’ pass into the box
The striker made no mistake on 14 minutes, however, when firing home a loose ball after the visiting team had failed to deal with a Cledan Davies corner kick.
The industrious Nashawn Blake then had a shot saved by Ryan Woods as the Roosters continued to make the running, but a second goal arrived on 27 minutes when Sion James found the net following another testing flag kick from Davies.
On the half hour, Corbisiero was forced off the field with an ankle injury, to be replaced by Rob Murfet, and the substitute almost added a third moments later when seeing his effort cleared off the line.
Two goals up at the break, the Roosters stretched their lead on 55 minutes when Elian Evans launched a well timed run, and his cross into the goalmouth was turned into the net off a visiting defender.
Llandudno hit back when Clark broke through following a stray pass to lift the ball over returning keeper Leigh Jenkins.
Moments later, Clark was denied by a fine save from the keeper, but any hopes of a Llandudno fightback were killed off on 71 minutes as a through ball from Owain James found Jonathan Evans who fired past Woods to secure the points.
Evans went close to another when denied by Woods after getting behind the defence from Murfet’s flick, but Penrhyn had done more than enough by that stage to secure their sixth win of the campaign.
Penrhyn’s revival will be put to the test in Saturday’s home clash with highly rated Holywell Town, before then heading to Gresford Athletic for the quarter-final of the Huws Gray Cup on Monday.
With two games in three days, Lewis faces some selection decisions as he looks to keep his players fresh. Liam Lewis is set to return after missing last week, but there are injury doubts over Liam Doherty and Sion Meredith, and Corbisiero.
