MANAGER Gari Lewis is backing Penrhyncoch to bounce back from a rare off-day that saw his side dumped out of the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance Cup with a 4-0 first round exit at Prestatyn.

The Roosters return to league business at home to Holyhead Hotspur on Saturday and Lewis is looking for his side to make a swift riposte to last weekend's defeat.

“Prestatyn was a tough place go to,” said Lewis. “It’s a game we would have liked to have won, but I’m not too down as this cup would have been a bonus.

“It was a tough day, but there are no excuses. We started well, missed two great chances in the first 10 minutes, and then went behind following a mistake.

“Goals change games, we lost our momentum after that, and Prestatyn’s tails were up. Once they’d scored twice early in the second half, there was no way back.

“But we were without three key personnel in Jon Foligno, Craig Williams and Liam Lewis, who will all come back in for Saturday's league match.”

Owain James and Matt Mousley were making their comebacks last weekend, while the only absentee this weekend is forward Steff Davies who could return to training in a fortnight’s time after his knee operation.

“We need to put last week behind us and go again against Holyhead, which is another tough game,” said the Penrhyncoch manager this week.

“They’ve had some good results lately, have brought in a new striker (Marc Evans) this week, and I rate them and their manager Darren Garmey highly.”

Evans, who had successful spells at Rhyl, Llandudno and Gwalchmai, before making the switch to New Zealand, netted 36 goals last season for Melville United.

His arrival further bolsters a Spurs’ attack that includes John Littlemore, Harry Galeotti and Jamie Roberts.

Following a poor start to the season, they picked up their first league win with a 2-1 triumph over Prestatyn, and followed that up with a 2-1 win at Flint Town United in the Cup last weekend.

Penrhyn are in good shape in the league with 10 points from six games - and are just one point off second place. After hosting Holyhead, they take on Llanrhaeadr in another game at Cae Baker the following Tuesday.

PRESTATYN TOWN 4 PENRHYNCOCH 0

PENRHYNCOCH were dumped out of the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance Cup with a 4-0 first round exit at former Welsh Premier League outfit Prestatyn Town.

The Roosters had trailed 1-0 at the break to Aaron White’s early opener, and two goals early in the second half from Ian Griffiths ended any hopes of a fightback.

Dave Hayes headed a fourth to seal the visitors’ fate as Prestatyn set up a quarter-final tie at home against Bangor City.

The Roosters had started well enough at Bastion Gardens, with Jonathan Evans and Liam Doherty having early chances.

They were up against after going behind on 13 minutes when, following a stray back pass from Matt Mousley, Aaron White slotted home, after being set up by a header by strike partner Ian Griffiths.

The visitors survived midway through the half as the hosts were awarded a penalty for a challenge on Griffiths, but the decision was overruled by the linesman.

Further pressure saw James Hay force a save, and soon after Aaron White’s header was cleared off the line from Chris Bennett floated a cross to the back post.

Prestatyn made a strong start to the second half, with Oliver Farebrother making a fine save to keep out White’s diving header from Jack Hoult’s quality cross.

Griffiths, however, doubled the lead from the resulting corner on 51 minutes, after Farebrother had saved from James Hay, and there was no way back once Griffiths had notched his second three minutes later, when receiving the ball in the area from Jack Hoult, before turning his man and firing low into the far corner

Defender Dave Hayes made it four with a bullet header into the top corner from a Hoult corner on 71 minutes, and Griffiths went close to a hat-trick when heading just wide from Casey Faulkner’s cross.

The Roosters had a chance to gain some consolation when substitute Liam Lewis, who was rested after turning his ankle earlier in the week, put an effort just wide.
