PENRHYNCOCH are waiting on whether the highly-rated Carwyn Jones will be staying at Cae Baker next season.

Equally comfortable at full back or midfield, Jones impressed in his first season after joining from Barmouth, with his performances earning him the Players’ Player of the Season accolade.

However, his form has attracted the interest of Huws Gray Cymru Alliance rivals Porthmadog with whom he was training this week.

"Carwyn has shown a lot of loyalty to us after we gave him the chance, but he lives in Harlech, so Porthmadog is the local club for him," said boss Gari Lewis.

"We will know more this week, and I’d say it’s 50-50 whether he stays at the club. Obviously, we hope he does as he had a brilliant season for us, but it’s a waiting game at the moment."

Lewis could bolster his squad with the arrival of Caersws’ attacking midfielder Rhydian Davies, who is keen to continue playing in the Cymru Alliance following the Bluebirds’ relegation to the Spar Mid Wales League this summer.

The Roosters have been given a further boost with Romanian midfielder Florin Burcea hoping to feature on a more regular basis next season following a change in work commitments.

Burcea is back to fitness following a badly dislocated shoulder that kept him out for 18 months, while midfielder Josh Shaw is also returning after injury to further boost the cause.

The 28-year-old forward has struggled with knee and ankle problems, but hopes to put those firmly in the past and make a welcome return to the squad this summer.

"We’re delighted he’s coming back after a difficult season, it’s great news," said boss Gari Lewis. "He’s fit and strong, is still in his prime and will give us a lot more options."

The Roosters are back in training on Saturday, 30 June, while their first friendly of the summer will be away to Bridgend side Penybont on Friday, 13 July.

They will face Porthmadog at home when the new Huws Gray Cymru Alliance season gets underway on 11 August.
