PETER Almond scored four goals as Newcastle Emlyn ended the unbeaten run of Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League leaders Bont with a 4-2 win.

The Reds scored first when striker Almond cut inside from the wing and he finished sweetly with a left footed shot.

Emlyn continued to dominate, but they were stung when Lee Jones scored from a free kick, and the same player then made it 2-1 with another free-kick.

With the first half almost over, Almond netted his second of the game, to set up an intriguing second period.

In worsening weather, Emlyn scored next when Almond completed his hat-trick as he headed in from close range.

Bont came back strongly and keeper Ian Hamilton was called into action to deny them, but with just 10 minutes to go Dan Davies crossed for Almond to nod the ball home and seal the 4-2 win.

A 10-man Aberporth team enjoyed a narrow 2-1 win over Aberdyfi, with their under-strength team pulling together to secure their cup progress.

The Airmen went ahead when Daniel Davies slipped past two defenders and chipped the keeper with his left foot.

Jonny Kinsella then scored the second goal five minutes after the break when his strike flew into the bottom corner.

• Lampeter Town made progress in the Costcutter League Cup as goals by Gethin Hunter, Scott Davies, Arwel Thomas and Luke Lovell sealed a 4-2 win over Llanboidy, with Declan Harries and Chris Bowen netting replies.

COSTCUTTER CEREDIGION LEAGUE

COSTCUTTER Ceredigion League leaders Llandysul produced probably their most resilient performance of the season to see off Cardigan Town 3-0.

Matthew Newbold crossed for Lewis Jones to score the first goal, after his header was initially saved, and Llandysul added to this when Scott Thomas unleashed a thunderbolt into the top corner, in off the underside of the bar.

Three minutes later, Thomas slotted home his second for a 3-0 interval lead.

Cardigan came out positively after the break and had an effort ruled out for offside as Llandysul held out to win.

Crannog, who were without regulars Huw Reed, Chris Welch and Gary Davies, managed to come away from Cae Sgwar with a comfortable 4-1 win against youthful Aberaeron Reserves.

Daniel Robinson, making his first start for the first team, saw his effort sneak over the line for the first goal, but Aberaeron replied, before former Seagulls player Rhydian Roberts, popped up at the far post to put his team 2-1 ahead.

With conditions deteriorating in the second half Roberts steered home from a pin-point free kick from Rhys Davies, and a ferocious drive by George Colven sealed a well deserved away triumph.

Cilgerran Rovers made the long journey to Llanddewi Brefi pay dividends as they came away with the three points following a 3-1 win over Dewi Stars.

Goals from Tommy Furbear, Dan Bellis and Louis Harding put them 3-0 up at half-time, but soon after the interval Ifan Thomas was upended in the box and he beat Dafydd Nicholls from the spot. Thomas, however, saw a second penalty saved magnificently by Nicholls at full stretch, and the keeper made some great saves as Stars fought back.

St Dogmaels, having lost the services of player-boss Chris Thomas through work commitments, twice let their lead slip as they drew 2-2 away at Felinfach.

A Rhys Jones penalty for the Saints was cancelled out by Owain Evans’ powerful strike, but Marcus Dean restored the lead, only for Rhys James to score a second equaliser for Felinfach.
