PORTHMADOG will join Tier Three of the newly-restructured Welsh football pyramid from the start of the 2020/21 season, after relegation from Cymru North.

With the season being curtailed due to the Covid-19 outbreak, Port had finished their campaign third-from-bottom in the table, with some six games and 18 points still to play for, and have been relegated along with Llanfair United and Corwen.

They will now play in the North Wales West Division - though that was not as certain as expected, given that Flint clubs will play in the North West and Ceredigion clubs enter the North East Division.

Their opponents next season will include local rivals Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs, who finished their season in 12th place in the Welsh Alliance division one.

Machynlleth, who were runners-up in the Mid Wales League division two, have also met stringent criteria to compete at Tier Three, and join North Wales East.Meanwhile Welsh Alliance division one champions Holyhead Hotspur were promoted into Tier Two Cymru North, along with Mid Wales League division one champions Llanidloes Town and Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Premier Division champions Holywell.“Clubs that successfully applied for Tier Three Certification as per the FAW pyramid regulations, were allocated places in the new Tier Three Leagues, based on sporting merit and geographical location,” an FAW spokesman has confirmed.

“The FAW National Leagues Board considered one of the key objectives of the FAW Pyramid Review to provide two predominantly northern leagues and two predominantly southern leagues within the Tier Three structure.

“We would like to congratulate all those clubs that were successful in reaching the Tier Three standard. The name and new brand for Tier Three Football in Wales will be released in due course.“Tier Three Certification is a pre-requisite for participation at Tier Three of the Welsh Football Pyramid from the start of the 2020/21 season.
