HAT-TRICK hero Julian Williams led the way as Porthmadog got revenge for their worst defeat of the season by thrashing Llanfair United 6-1 in the Traeth return.

After a fairly balanced opening half, which had seeen the rivals level at 1-1, Porthmadog produced a sparkling second period and rattled in five more goals.

Williams fired a quick-fire treble in just 13 minutes, between the 63rd and 76th, the last goal being a glorious 25-yard free-kick that flew over keeper Mark Richards.

The mid-Wales visitors, who had beaten Porthmadog 5-1 in September, had held their own in a subdued first 45 minutes.

The hosts had gained the lead on 17 minutes through Cai Jones, who finished off his chance from close in, after build-up play by Julian Williams and Rob Evans.

Just before that, Julian Williams had powered a goal-bound effort that had the keeper beaten, but Llanfair’s captain Mark Jones cleared from near the line.

Llanfair, however, drew level on 38 minutes when Jamie Davies chased a long clearance from his own half to fire a first time 25-yard strike past Richard Harvey.

Porth’s second half takeover began in the 52nd minute, when Griff John Williams, having had his first effort blocked, seized on the misdirected clearance to despatch a 25-yards’ volley into the net.

Julian Williams’ then took centre stage just past the hour, when he snapped up a wayward pass in the Llanfair box to tuck a neat shot under goalkeeper Richards.

Cai Jones was the creator of Williams’ second goal, and Porthmadog’s fourth, on 69 minutes, when slipping an inviting pass between two opponents to Williams, who fired home from around 15 yards.

Williams crowned his personal feat with that free-kick, and Porthmadog’s final tally became half-a-dozen on 83 minutes, when Asa Hamilton rounded off a neat exchange to fire home from 15 yards out.
